Well. This was an adventure unlike any other.

Elmer was created with the express interest to help two matters: Help Fitzwilliam with the woefully vacant and often maligned Exile Collective and create a PC who would sponsor necromantic activities while pursuing controlling of the Withering. I'm really pleased to say I accomplished both objectives.

Elmer was designed to be a background character and for quite some time he was one. However due to IG events he was thrust into the limelight and adapted. Councilor was never part of the PC's concept or objectives and a ton of people went through the process of "My Fair Lady"-ing him into being something of a decent councilor.

However due to a number of factors playing Elmer just fun anymore and when EFU stops being fun that's when you hang it up to avoid becoming burned out.

Some won't be able to be posted since they're pretty spoilerific but here's the juiciest bits.

I joined the Exile Collective on day 1 of the PC and kept his necromantic powers secret for quite some time. The role of a "Coward" was one he explained as to why he didn't fight on quests to avoid summoning the dead. He had no "Buffing" spells traditionally- Purely Necromantic Spells and Summoning Spirits until I had reached level 9 and he used the "Ley" to alter his blood-born powers.

Many people heard this story IG but wanted to share it with others who hadn't. Elmer's "Curse" is something he told a lot of people about and each time I told the story it was great but also terrifying since someone could have told it publicly and seen him likely killed.

[hide=The Story of Melissa]On the surface Elmer was a good man. He had a wife he loved until the day she died, he tended his crops, he went to market, and he wrote in his journal, he put flowers on his wife's grave. Not a novelist by any means but he enjoyed writing. Long after the Red Star's rise he had a day that was like any other. Except that morning he had cut his hand while plowing the field. He awoke that night in a terror - finding his wife at the foot of his bed. In a blind panic he fled for his closet and hid for many hours, until at one point he begged her to leave.

To his shock and horror, she did. He had bled on her grave and she had rose from the dead.

Many weeks passed and nothing came of this traumatic event until the Darkening. He discovered while fending off mindless drones that anyone who was killed - by his blood, was reborn as his slave. He also discovered his necromantic powers could do the same, the magic warping them to his will. He was discovered by a handful of adventurers who mistook him for some poor, disheveled beggar. So he maintained the Charade to the Underdark - sniveling, stammering, scared Elmer...

To the public he was easily bullied, would go along with any threats thrown at him, would avoid any and all conflict.

All the while practicing his dark arts in secret...[/hide]

Elmer was never made to be a Nobleman, he was never made to be a Councilor, and he was never made to be a leader. The idea was to play a stammering, overlooked beggar who in secret aspired for next-level horrific necromancy as a solo mad scientist type. He willingly partook of the Withering hoping it could expand and empower him, and boy howdy did it. Acquiring the Steward Ring which was discovered to exist ICly through the HoK, acquired ICly through using DTW's covenant PCs, and more was a hail mary that worked.

And of course, The money shot.

Using his necromantics and his research of the Ley, Elmer achieved what H'bala had done. Only on a smaller scale. He had created the Withering in the Underdark.

A good man, given a very large and evil curse, that he tried to turn into a weapon to save his people from the Dread Empire.

I wish to extend my fullest thanks to the PCs who helped shaped, cultivate, push, and fundamentally change this PC's life.

Also big ups to Fitz, glad to play your henchman though things did drift apart quite badly near the end.

Jealous.  Was funny to see his true evil nature in private, though.  We will definitely miss him.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

"Maybe there's just one revolution.  The good guys against the bad guys.  The question is, who are the good guys?"

My lord this is the greatest concept I've ever heard. I'm so jelly right now.
I'm so glad to see how much the character accomplished and how far you managed to progress along what was obviously an amazing story. You're always rolling out with such interesting characters, and somehow always finding a way to top yourself. Bravo RwG, I can't wait to see who you roll out with next.
<elmo>: i have to say for me your glory days have been on EFUR RagingPurpleGiant1
