I wanted to suggest that the spell Knock be able to work on doors/locks that do not require a special key to be opened. These are doors that you would normally bash for 10 mins or actually have a rogue for :D

But I feel that doors that can be bashed or lock picked should also be able to be opened by the spell Knock.

And..I'd like to point to this:

Snoteye said:

"I remember deciding this wasn't possible. I don't remember why I decided this wasn't possible."

He later said he didn't have the time to find out why it wasn't possible...so let us revisit now that we have time. >_>

Please make knock better.

Yes.  As far as I can tell, it is worthless right now.  I have used items with "knock" charges a total of nine times on objects and doors that a moderately good lock-picker could open, with zero results.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

"Maybe there's just one revolution.  The good guys against the bad guys.  The question is, who are the good guys?"

This has come up before, and as I remember, "Plot" doors are immune to Knock and bashing. Is there a flag that grants bash but not knock immunity, or could such doors instead just be granted ridiculous, nigh unbeatable levels of both physical and elemental DR?

Snoteye

In light of not being able to recall why I concluded this (nor either being able to glean it from the code) and it not being a technical obstacle I would not be against this. Maybe then I might remember why didn't like it.

Afaik there are flags that effect knock, something like knock immune and knock resistance, IIRC.   It's possible to make plot doorsnot immune to knock, afaik.

I think the only reason not to do this, would be the fact you'd need to edit EVERY door you want to be knockable's variables. (That's a lot of doors, probably!) And editing that many objects in the toolset can be ridiculously tedious and time consuming, even if it is a simple edit.

Howlando

I'm okay with the suggestion.

Subject to a DM with the time and know-how to make the change.

Cruzel, once again making wild statements that are completely misleading; we only need to modify the Knock spell script. I would propose that we do the following, and I will make the adjustment when I have time, if someone like Snoteye doesn't beat me to it:

If a door does not require a special key to open and has a DC between 2 and 20 + caster level, then knock should work. Doors with DC 0 or 1 might have been DM-locked, and doors with crazy DCs aren't meant to be unlocked; obviously, doors with special key requirement (GetLockKeyRequired) should only be unlocked by the key.
