I have had perfectly good days ruined by someone yanking my pack to find one item that they know they are searching for. My suggestion is easy -- Add in a rule that says to yank_pack only as a last resort. I've lost hours of pack tetris with this incredibly frustrating thing.

A "last resort" is based upon the perception of someone in the situation to take your pack.

Do they want to try and decipher a huge wall of text with a search option (where you can hide things even though subdued)?

Do they want to trust you to hand over an item if you have it, assuming you don't lie because you have bluff or something?

Does the circumstance they are in suggest that they should or should not sit around spending a lot of time trying to take a singular item while in danger of retaliation / having witnesses.

There are too many factors for this to be made any sort of "rule". It simply falls under doing what is classy and varies upon the situation at hand.

Back in my day, getting subdued or killed always resulted in pack tetris.

Back in my day, DMs used to regularly DM-kill/TR our friends just to enjoy the suffering of a player forced to play pack tetris...

Thank God it's the future. Get with the times!

I uh, remember such things from elsewhere.

FWIW I like to yank packs even if I seldom loot anything, just to make subdual oocly painful. Too many people have just shrugged it off and walked away as if nothing had happened. But that's just me (note I usually loose every pvp I get into, so it's not like it happens much....)

Apocryphal Misconceptions

Raise hands if apparently you weren't friends with Howland or the rest of the DMs back in his days

It is in the end of it all very small evil compared to everything else that is possible. Really, that is just part of it and while a nuisance, it is not something anyone should get truly angry for.
