Item sets suggestion

The new addition of item sets is really neat. Having been informed, though, that you need to have every single piece equipped at all times for it to be equipable, I see a problem with weapons and shields.

Having weapons and shields not being unequipable without having to remove all your clothes seems very cumbersome in a number of situations, such as: Sheathing your weapon, switching to a ranged weapon in combat, using an item such as the Grappling Gun or a Mining Pick, removing your shield to sneak or disable traps, and so on. So my suggestion is: Just like how weapons and shields can be swapped in combat where armour can't, could weapons and shields, in item sets, only have a check to see if you carry them in your inventory, rather than if they are equipped? This would require you to have the entire set still, thus retaining the spirit of item sets, but specifically for weapons and shields, would prevent the multitude of limiting/unrealistic issues not being able to ever unequip your weapon/shield leads to.

If this isn't changed, I fear sets with shields and/or weapons might not get much use even where it'd otherwise make sense to.

Disclaimer: This change would only be for weapons and shields - all other items in a set should still be required to be worn at the same time to function.

I think players don't quite understand the variety of sets yet. There are sets with interchangeable items, and few sets that actually require particular weapons anyway. Just discover and enjoy....

This seems like an awesome idea.  I love the idea of item sets.  I also agree that if you choose to use a different weapon/shield you should not get the complete set abilities. Regardless of the situation.  Kudos to the DM team for this implement!

While I am convinced by ShadowCharlatan's compelling arguments, I'd just like to point out that the issue wasn't so much about not getting abilities, as it was about having to strip down entirely naked to unequip said weapon/shield. :p

But yeah, item sets are a super awesome addition that I can't wait to explore!

That seems fair to me as well!

Not to mention if your set is your main equipment.. the laws of the town prevent walking around with open weapons so.. it's like: "put away your weapons!" Person: "okay one second let me strip down"

I didn't build any sets with weapons and if SC didn't either then I don't really understand what you guys are panicking about.
