These have been mostly a burden, whether in the form of plot relics or a lack of dedication in general. I'd much rather see non-app Goblins / Kobolds than have child-like Stargazers or mostly inactive characters involved in a major part of the story hopping on when it is only beneficial. There is enough trouble in the wilds without false allies around! :P

A level of understanding about this subrace is certainly the prerequisite to portray one properly. That said, this has been a nonissue for the far greater part (exceptions there).

These issues you've (justly?) addressed are better handled on case to case basis

While it's been a couple of months since I've played a gazer, it was always a little disheartening to see folks log in with their alt whenever shit was going down and then never see them again. But I've seen this happen from gazers with apps as well as non-apps. Not sure if this needs to be a sweeping change just yet. Gazers new to the Eyrie shouldn't be trusted with items of plot importance anyhow- easy enough to change hands. If they're mostly inactive, you can contact a DM to keep those items in rotation- it's been done before.

While you may be currently seeing it in the 'gazers, it's not specific to them.  You see it in all factions or groups.  While it's certainly frustrating to the extreme sometimes, it is best handled on a case-by-case basis.  Blue41 did bring up a good point ... if they're new to the group, or obviously an on/off PC, why are they being entrusted with a plot-heavy or plot-specific item?

I don't think that VP was suggesting that fresh, faceless PCs are given these plot-specific items. I think VP was saying that a player will make a stargazer, roll hard for a bit while things seem breezy/favorable, get their hands on something important, then when things hit the fan they just disappear while the more dedicated players are left fighting the good fight only to see these certain flaky PCs return days/weeks later after the conflict subsided.

It can be very frustrating for all parties involved when a plot-specific item is in "limbo" simply because a player does not log in with his PC or make the responsible decision to hand over the item. It stagnates the plot as well prolongs conflict needlessly (killing off the PCs that are proactive).

I am not opposed to making the stargazer subrace app-only again, though a case-by-case basis is fine too. I think it should be better stressed that the subrace wasn't opened up as a non-app race without expectations. There are expectations, not only from the DM team but as well as fellow players.

So is this about people not playing with plot items and less about Stargazers being played poorly?  I think them being open is fine, if DMs do indeed keep tabs on them to make sure they are played right.  Is that done?  I have no clue, but I hope so.

Simple thing is, if you have plot items don't not play to avoid it being taken.  Don't go away for weeks at a time and be greedy when you could hand it to another PC or maybe an NPC.  I really hate this and to be honest I saw it alot on the Stargazer group.  Sadly, I'm sure it happens alot more though.

I very much agree with VP's original suggestion.
