Yank_pack on a body who's player logged out

I was recently involved in PvP combat where I did not set myself to full death. So, my opponent was subdued but it was the surrounding NPC monsters that  killed him and sent him to the fugue. He then proceeded to log out.

After retrieving the body, the /c yank_pack command would not work on the "player-less" corpse and I was not able to separate his worn equipment or pack items from the corpse.

It seems that since the player logged out with his things in the fugue, it prevents anyone from thus using the /c yank_pack command on them.

We are aware of it. Not per say bug, and I am not sure if we even necessarily seek a way to change it.

Rather than similar re-post, on the same topic - if you yank_pack a NPC-killed still dead PC, you can cannot get all their gear unless the player takes off all their worn items and puts them in general inventory. With an uncooperative player, this could result in the rather odd situation being able to take someones gold or potions or whatever, but being unable to pull the sword from their cold, dead hands.

Perhaps corpse items should still drop on death, but you do not lose your inventory, makes sense that you could strip a dead body of its current armor and such, but its pack would already be looted (As it would be easier to grab a bag and run then declothing a corpse.) by monsters if a explorer dies via npc.

Witchcraft

There are a few problems there.

This gives PCs the voluntary option of denying their PvP opponents their just spoils.

Accidental logouts and crashes (they still happen to me, unfortunately) will have unintended consequences.

Plot items, or even merely items which are important to role play (journals, etc.) will be lost with no option to recover them.

This new death system is amazing and I would never want to go back to inventory Tetris, but this is sort of like when EfU:A switched to the party-less system. These changes offer an opportunity to make some major, radical changes to the way the server works. While this can reduce inflation in the player economy, it can also give players an exploit to prevent plots from developing when they ragequit.

I'm just saying, some items should not be able to be destroyed that easily.

You realize that in the case of PvP there's an easy solution here. Yank their pack after you subdue and before you FD, simple. As far as plot items on a PvM death where it's unavoidable, go to a DM and explain the situation.

All this truly is preventing is taking packs when a PC dies in a DM event or to NPCs, but for PvP it really shouldn't cause an issue if you plan ahead just a little. So there should be no denying of "just spoils" in the case of PvP.

If a player logs out just after being subdued in PvP, they are breaking PvP rules anyway. If it is a crash, simply logging back in as soon as possible and explaining the situation will clear everything up, as is per the norm.

If someone FD's before yanking, that is their problem.

The actual command is "/c yank_pack everything" Yank_pack itself will not strip equipped items.

Talir

This isn't really an issue. As mentioned, yank_pack has different parameters that retrieve different parts of the target's inventory. Logging on subdual is an issue you approach us immediately on, and isn't something affected by the death changes. Killing someone in pvp automatically drops everything out of the victim's complete inventory.

What used to be a bug was trying to yank_pack an unconcious or dead PC while there were other players nearby. Can someone confirm that has been fixed?

VanillaPudding

We need some method for people who perma to drop their things (an option in the fugue maybe?) or a way to yank pack from those who log out if it is possible. Still, very awesome system and it's greatly appreciated!

That teaches you for fleeing and leaving the body to the mighty mudmen! Obvious they draged the body away :)

Caster13

The pack maybe. Still dragged your body away to be pyred :P
