Application rejections

I'd like to see some short explanation of why an application is not approved that is somehow viewable with the notice in the application forum.

Is that possible as the system is currently set up?

If a player spends a lot of time working on an app, IMO they deserve 2-3 sentences summarizing why it was not approved.  A player should not have to get on IRC and drag a DM out of the fun conversation they are probably having to look whiny and say, "Why didn't my app get approved?"

PMs don't always get answered, and frankly I don't feel comfortable asking a DM on IRC why it didn't get approved.  If I could get a reason that represents the majority opinion of the DM staff, then that's usually enough.

When a player wants more info, then that is a good time to pursue it via PM or on IRC I think.

I'd be willing to do this. If your app is rejected, PM it to me and I'll tell you why. Of course, it would only be an educated guess.

Snoteye

No, the current system does not allow this.

Cruzel

I actually suggested this privately to the DMs awhile ago. The reasons I was given for this not happening, were along the lines of;

Sometimes they discuss things they don't necessarily want PCs to know, and making the app visible after voting would let the player see this, unless they edit it out. Sometimes there is little to no input on apps, other than Yes/no, so making it visible is a moot point anyways. There were some other reasons I can't bother to remember, but they sufficiently quenched my desire to have this, by convincing me it was far easier just to forum PM or IRC PM a DM to get them to summarize the reason for you.

To be honest, I don't see why you would feel uncomfortable with PMing them. Unless you're literally spamming the DM (Like I do to Snoteye) Or they are very busy IG or doing something else, its not really any trouble whatsoever for them to read your app and give you an answer.  If your IRC doesn't get answered and you logout before they can respond, try asking in a Forum PM. That will almost definately get answered when the DM is next checking the forums, and it will be there for you when you next get on.

Snoteye

For what it's worth, I reckon the primary reason (IRC) PMs sometimes do not get answered is that we do not get back to you unless having specifically stated otherwise. As Cruzel said, it's no big deal for us to check up on an application but there can still be any number of reasons we are simply not able to, and if we can't easily contact you when we are able we are not even going to try (after all, if we had something to tell you the application would be in the results forum).

I'm all for this, were it possible. DMs, as is their nature, can sometimes feel intimidating and unapproachable. At least to me. Also, since they're always busy with something it just makes one feel terrible to send a PM or something like that.

Here's something that'd be possible: instead of [Reject] taped to the application thread name, tape [R: super-brief reason]; at least that'd give the applicant an idea what to work on. If more space is needed, just delete parts of the application thread title.

Example:

Account | Topic |Subtopic [Reject]
to
Account [R: too many in faction]
or
[R: requires too much DM help with goals]
and so on.

Seems easy enough!

Snoteye

If players want that, sure, we could try that. Personally I think that has the potential to be even more off-putting, though.

Gwydion

All right, makes sense.

So either IRC, or post in the "DM Questions and Answers"/"Private Discussions and Reports".

As an aside, I wasn't dissatisfied with the explanation a DM gave me, but just thought it would be nice if a short explanation was viewable - not necessarily all the DM private discussion/comments on the app.

Thanks!
