Unless there is something I am missing I don't really understand why the npcs wanted us to recruit and capture renegades so fiercely. It caused so much tension and grief for most people and since it also lead to a perma death event it could have potentially caused a lot more rage/grief/people quitting lol

You are missing something.

IC'ly, to bring about the rebirth of a dead god (which is what Razul was after all the time) required suitable "sacrifice" (blood) of as many different kinds of arcane casters as possible. There were other IC reasons, also.

OOC, for the purposes of making for a good game world it is important that certain kinds of classes have certain kinds of restrictions (beyond mechanical ones) that in some way provide extra challenge or limitation and do something to reduce super powered examples of these classes being incredibly bland.

For example -

Clerics must be dedicated champions of their faith and dogma, as they advance in level they must be a very active champion of their deity or are likely to face spell failure.

Paladins must abide by a very vigorous code of conduct. As they advance in levels, if they are not actively fighting evil then likewise they might fall.

Druids must abide by their oaths, rarely go into town, be actively working to maintain the balance, deal with the existing Druidic Hierarchy, etc.

Up until now, Sorcerers/Wizards must somehow figure out a way to deal with a grasping Mage's Guild (of which there has been a large variety of ways to do so).

Letting everyone cheerfully invis-quest their bland wizards way up to being level 10 (or higher) superwizards with nothing in particular to worry about doesn't make for a very exciting or dynamic playing experience.

It was a great implementation I think, and furthermore was quite fascinating over the -years- of the Conclave's existence. I'm certainly no DM, but I feel that almost everyone with power to hunt renegades in this faction did it quite well, and furthermore with leniency and fitting etiquette.

The Conclave was an antagonist faction for quite a while,  and I personally feel that they restricted themselves quite well when concerning killing players or whatnot over being renegades.

There are a few silly things about the faction perhaps, but I don't think this part was in any way negative. In fact, I found it to be one of the most interesting things about the faction (alongside bonding)

Sorry I should have been more specific. I meant towards the end when the faction was coming to an end and still we were told by dms to be more fierce with renegades and also force or kill other higher level wizards to join us for the Triumph which would have ended with their chars being permed, or was it simply keeping up with the ambience of it all?

Big Orc Man

They were nearing the time of the ritual and needed all hands on deck!

That seems pretty self-explanatory.

The Old Hack

I did not as much mind the Conclave hunting mages as much as I minded some specific personal experiences that in retrospect could have been handled better (by both sides! I certainly made mistakes as well.) It added a great deal of story to Ekaterin that she resisted the Conclave so fiercely.

But it was also possible to play a mage so you received little or no attention from the Conclave at all. More, even capture and trial by the Conclave did not equal death -- many chose the collar of the Nebezzdulon instead. I was actually planning a mage character with a quite cowardly personality who would run from the Conclave while she could and take the collar over death if/when caught. Kara and Ekaterin both chose death over servitude. But Kara was an annoying twerp and Ekaterin had a pole up her arse; neither was the type to submit to enslavement and I knew the consequences of that once I was caught.

I was one of these who objected to and criticised what the Conclave became when it turned more harsh and oppressive. Later, I learned that some of my objections had been met and decided that they were the important ones; I returned to play Ekaterin and did not regret it. I had some great interactions with certain Conclavists even though we were in mortal opposition. And I consider Ekaterin's end at the hands of Razul and the Triumvirate a high note in her life even though it was the last one.

The conclave was an awesome faction. As an opponent, ally, or a member I always had awesome expeirences with the conclave. One thing I loved about the conclave was the inner conflict divide. This sometimes resulted in duels to the death over the dumbest minor disputes.

Honestly I think it's a shame those conclave forums couldn't be seen by all the antics were epic. Still I feel that it's a shame this is the way the conclave ended.

Was the soul archive part of the end ritual? when davian was obliterated and absorbed by the archive, he still wanted to serve and razul promised davian that his death would come to serve an ultimate purpose like all the others killed by the archive that they wouldn't be in there forever, and that one day we would all serve once more... i still haven't heard everything about the ritual so im just curious if that was the purpose for the archive.

Finally, we won't have to call faction companions consorts.

Quote from: Howland;309097I would like to salute the DM team (and in particular Shadow Charlatan) & the players of the 176 characters that joined the Transcendent Conclave and whose blood made this final ritual possible.

The souls in the Soul Archive were used as sacrifice to the end purpose of Mystryl's rebirth! Rejoice, you were part of the plot to kill Mystra (Midnight) and bring back the first and true Goddess of Magic.

This is also an excellent divergence from the 'canon' events of Mystra's death by Cyric and Shar which would take place three years from the current time IG otherwise. (Not that we much care to limit our creativity to canon FR here at EFU.)
