The Old Hack

Okay, I feel incredibly stupid. A stray comment about the BO function of PvP just reminded me of an incident yesterday in which my new character fought Whiskers the Wererat along with others, and of course had her head handed to her -- no problem there. However, because Whiskers had his PvP function set to BO, I went to the BO room. Still no problem. I then wake up again -- and my stupidity sets in.

Ordinarily, good PvP etiquette requires you to, once beaten, to stay out of the fight. I am so used to it that it is almost reflexive. The nice yellow message to behave is also a helpful reminder. But because BO mode is different, for some reason I decide to act like I would in PvE and rejoin the fray. So, collect pack, down healing, chase, and get head handed to me again. And, just because I am stupid, and because I got BOed again -- rinse and repeat, chase the heavily burdened and still fighting Whiskers, whack again. (At the end of the whole thing my invis potion chooses to give out while I am surrounded by Nightrisers and I got Fugued, which may have been poetic justice.)

My question is, did I just horribly violate PvP rules here? Should I have stayed out of the fight after my first defeat? (Which would have been sensible and which I might have done on a less aggressive character.)

Also, my apologies to the player of Whiskers for the possibly unwarranted continuing interference. Next time I'll try to use my brains and stay defeated.

Whiskers

I didn't mind. The fight kept me entertained while dragging everyone to Murdertown for stew and dancing.

This really should be posted in the Dm questions and answers forum TOH!

However, I think this is an honest mistake.

What, the mess or posting in the wrong forum? *sigh*

Eh, not that it matters. It just seems to be my week for making mistakes.

Spiffy Has

tbh I am just glad you're  back amongst us. I missed having you around. :P

Two normal responses and two troll responses to an honest question/mistake.

Holy shit.

Alright, I'm sorry for the link, I'll answer seriously now.

I would say, if you are BO'd but the fight is still going on around you when you are woken up, play it as though your character is just regaining consciousness. If she got knocked on the head, realistically, she wouldn't really feel up to running around casting or hitting things. She might be disoriented, confused, and scared, depending on the character's personality. Play it ready to defend yourself, but don't go on the offensive yourself, I would say. Pop invis, or Ghostly Visage, hang back ready to heal friends if you decide your character is capable of such cognitive function.

You mentioned that she had been knocked out, what, three times? After the second I'd imagine she'd have a little brain damage, never mind three times! After just once, if you're unsure, hang back, don't engage, but maybe pop a summon and some potions to flee or defend yourself, yeah.

Of course, this is all from still a relatively new player who does not, and has not, PVP'd extensively. We all know what to do when subdued, but when casually BO'd, it's a bit fuzzy. If you're still unsure, play it safe, and follow the subdual rules as guidelines, barring a DM ruling of course.

Bonhomie

I'm pretty sure that it's just another form of having been subdued and acts as an extension to the rule. Check with the DMs for something more concreet however.

Eh. I just ignored the trolls. You learn to grow a thick hide on a forum where DrD is a poster. >.>

I think this line of thought is through.

DoctorDragon is a good player and the server is more fun with him, but we all have our eccentricities.

Can we please kindly have a more cooperative and polite forum, without the backbiting?

I can do what I should have done to begin with, follow your suggestion, move this question to the DM questions forum and ask them to lock this thread. *sigh*

Jayde Moon

You should stay down, even if it's BO, unless given leave to rise by a DM or the player who subdued you.

For coming forth and admitting (rather publicly) the mistake and apologizing to the player (who accepted), nothing further need come of this.

Make note and move on.
