All PCs with sufficient ranks in Alchemy to receive the Alchemy player tool now possess a new powerful weapon in their crafting repertoire: the "Sunder Magic" player tool. The principle behind it is that you can use the tool to break down certain magical items into basic elements which can be recombined into other items using Alchemy or Herbalism.

Note well:
  • The exact same elements will always result from the same items.
  • Sundering an item requires you to make an alchemy check relative to the item's power.
  • If the item can't be used as a crafting ingredient, it can't be sundered.
  • Sundered elements are indivisible and cannot be sundered further.
  • The crafting value of an item directly affects the usefulness of generated elements in crafting.
  • The total crafting value of the elements generated is always less than the total crafting value of the item which is broken down (degradation). Remember that items with low crafting values produce higher crafting DCs.
  • If the crafting value of an item is too low then it cannot be sundered.
This feature may be subject to further adjustment.
