Small Note on Stealth Mechanic Bug

Just giving a friendly reminder to people that if you load a new area, and a stealthed PC is there within vision range, they will 'flicker' into sight for a brief second or two before disappearing. This is little more than an NWN bug, and should be treated entirely OOC. You do not actually see or hear the PC in question.

:)

Similarly, though, using transitions as a tool for breaking line of sight in stealth mode is equally poor form.

MirrorMask

is there a link to where this has been declared a bug?  I'm unfamiliar with nwn mechanics and i'm sure others would like there reference.  Or if it hasn't been declared such, and is, it should be.

Thanks.

SilverSword

What Porkolt said might be a poor form, but you can hardly avoid it. Even if you are -not- in stealth and you're trying to run off from someone, you will use the transition. Same goes for stealthers.

As for the original post, don't do it. It's very easy to attack the 'something' that's visible for 2 seconds and then just hack into nothingness, forcing the PC to break stealth and be the badass who was able to see through godlike Hide/MS, but it's a very pathetic thing to do.

Paha

Transitioning and stealthing right after, or stealthing into transition in general might be poor. It's borderline acceptable, but if one is escaping, then I find it acceptable. Some people can hide. They are still in grave danger of being spotted and being very slow right infront of you.. I don't find such fine for repeatable use to throw sneak attacks on the follower, and then do it again.

Nihm

Unfortunately, it is one of those things that always gets done.  All you can do is try to maintain enough distance that you won't be noticed as you transition behind them.

AKMatt

Attacking a character who is revealed by this bug is an exploit.  Same goes for any alteration of behavior based on the knowledge that they are there.  If you see somebody popping up for a second after transitioning then quickly fading, it is a bug, and their presence should be ignored.

Since it came up for discussion, so is attempting to stealth immediately after passing through a transition to escape pursuit.

Do not do either of these things.

I always had the understanding using 'corner sneaking' and also transitioning and then using stealth to -escape only- was acceptable.

KillerB

Yeah I read that part too.

Except other DMs have said it was valid for escape as well.

A definite ruling would be ideal.

Porkolt

If it's in the announcements it's a definite ruling.

As a note, it can be sometimes be fairly obvious when this is abused.  Exploiting this bug is just that and consequences can and will follow.

Mort

The announcement details pretty accurately why it is bad, and it how it differs from corner-sneaking or line-of-sight break stealth in the same area.
