Many play characters that travel from a to b alot.... Can we maybe put in a "Sprint" capacity.. As a playertool to be activated / deactivated, providing a boost to speed but subsequent lowering of something else... AC maybe...

Thoughts?

You're already able to run.

Also, there's expeditious retreat and haste. Subsequently lowering your spellslots or coinpurse.

I don't think it's necessary, travelling has already been made quite easy.

Instead of looking for ways to allow you to hightail it through every area, quest to quest, I would recommend you take the time to marvel at the immense and beautiful world the DMs continue to develop for you. As a result, you all, as players, will have an infinitely more enjoyable experience.

Expeditious Retreat comes dirt cheap!

I bolded what I am going to comment here.

Certainly, the server is absolutely staggering. But if the only reason people can think of to have higher movement speed, then why is there a perk giving it, why do so many classes get it as a feature? To increase the speed at which these classes can grind through quests?

If that is the reason, then I fear I have mistaken EFUs intention completely. My suggestion for sprinting was made because:

1. It lets fighters rush to a lower HPbuilds side if they get overwhelmed.

2. It lets said low hp builds hightail it away from big, bad things.

3. It lets things move faster without a cost of potions and whatnot...

Now, let it be known that I have not said any fixed speed increase itself.. It'd be noticeable, yes.. But it does not have to be the same as, for instance, EXP retreat or anything else.

Also, what do you guys think. NWN running... Is it a jog that you can do for hours, or a full on dead sprint that you do for like... 500 meters and need a minute to recover afterwards? I posted this because I believed it to be the former .

It is definately fun to run around and playing with haste, but your claims on nature characters running around powerquesting is false! The movement speed shows off the characters survival in natural terrain.
Now if YOU want a fast Low HP character than seriously invest in expedious retreat.

There is a precedent for this, actually: the Run action in PnP. It allows you to move four times your movement speed in a round, or three times if you've got heavy armor. But then again, this is a video game and not turn-based strategy.

Rangers and druids get a movement speed boost to represent them being better able than others to find a path through the wilds. It also helps them escape the many dangers of being a wilds PC if they can outrun them.
Barbarians get a movement speed boost because EfU loves barbs and wants them to always be happy ;).

Movement's only really useful to either catch or escape an enemy, or explore faster. Unless everyone has it, you won't quest any faster. If you want to move faster situationally, use exp retreat. If you need to escape, try an invis pot or Darkness item, they are both easy to get here. Alternatively play a Bard and use a tune that gives movement speed.

I would rather the opposite be in effect, where if you have speed boosts, you can negate them with a command to stop sprinting. >_>
