OOC tells

This may not be the right place for this, and usually DMs do this, but here goes anyways...

I recently spent 1/5 of a long quest receiving TELLS (some in caps) from another player, who has been around for a while, about why it is important to shoot monster X vs. monster Y. (he wanted my char to do something else)

My character was actually trying to do this, and while it is my own stupid fault for responding in a similarly OOC manner, (I replied in a tell -oops- stating that I couldn't target them easily as they were hidden behind other monsters - while I should have reminded the player "do this IG") the whole experience became more than a little annoying.

Folks, if you are going to scold another character, do it IN GAME. When you send a tell scolding a player, you are doing just that, scolding a PLAYER. (and not their character)

Furthermore it's meta to tell a player to have their character do something that you know is better for the quest, because you've done it oodles of times, and tell them in an OOC tell.

So try to keep the OOC tells down. You don't have to play nice IG, just play right.

Just a friendly neighborhood reminder.

It's also much more FUN to do it in character, so do it <_<

Thrall

Make them feel self conscious about themselves.

Waht he said. Don't TELL people what to do. Do it IG, if you must do it. And if someone bugs you with TELLS, TELL them nicely to bugger off. Same with party chat.

DeputyCool

There is a system IG to filter tell reception.

Use it, if this bothers you!

Unless it's been disabled without my knowledge. Then don't use it.

Like when Richard told Richard he was a fool for rushing ahead?

Tells are good for a mechanical aspect like "no dude, dual-wield doesn't work in heavy armor" or "Yes, dualwielding bastardswords gives you a larger penalty". DMs correct me if i'm wrong.

Verybigliar

Well if you wanna talk about stuff like that, feel free. But tells like "Dude. There's a pack of mobs that's going to appear behind us when we go forward a bit. be ready to kill it." "Hey, there are sneaking rogues behind corner. Trap and I'll lure them in."

That kind talk is not, I'd say.

Howlando

Sending metagaming tells or using OOC rather than IC is totally unacceptable.

fabijan

This should be bumped.. =b

Oh wow, and here I thought Macizo had made a return.

Do not hesitate to report players who send inappropriate tells to me personally so that I can help emphasize the importance of not ruining other people's immersion in this way.
