I was hoping to see public beatings and such ontop of the ziggurat of the slaves, not more "There is a ruined tower to plunder, please accompany me"

Not all slavery is evil. The variant you describe here is though. Perhaps the slavers are not evil aligned? A noble who is also a paladin of Siamorphe may well have a man servant, a slave owned by his family, treated properly for example.
