A suggestion regarding Animal Empathy

Since it's pretty annoying to have animals you have used Animal Empathy on suddenly go hostile without warning, could perhaps a combat log message akin to the underwater air supply message be added? That periodically displays the remaining duration of the domination. Doesn't even have to be repetitive - just a simple "Dominating Animal - 10 rounds remaining" would help a ton.

Well, I know it's 1 turn/character level. Aka 1 minute. Should help in the meantime.

When I played an AE-heavy char, I would uncharm and recharm often in order to constantly restart the timer, so to speak.

Though this isn't a bad idea.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

Make it hour / level with a slight XP loss if they die, maybe 5xp / level. Might make those Druids actually get angry when people just kill their FE'd pet ;P

Mort

Impossible to code without lag-inducement!

Mort

Well, that's not entirely correct. Nothing is impossible, but I'd have to bother strife to play with NWNX and enable some stuff. So, ETA is unknown.

Dying because your cave bear's AE drops when you're not expecting it -is- pretty damn disheartening!

I agree, and people also discourage you from bringing dominated animals along to help fight, as they know OOCly it can just go hostile without warning.

I have noticed that sometimes even a dominated animal, if it has previously been attacked by a PC before domination it will still continue to attack that PC even when dominated. I think this needs to be fixed also as it can become very annoying at times, and again discourages using AE to aid in combat.

Actuallty SilentSouth, it's more a bad idea to bring AEd beasts on a quest because unlike summons they are not buffed up Level 1 NPCs. Their level tends to be high, and drive the spawn amounts through the roof.

As I once said to Thomas after he brought Wolf on Orcs and we ended up nearly re-enacting "300":
QuoteOrc Guerilla: Sir, they've got 8 heavily armed men and A SINGLE WOLF!
Chieftain: A Wolf, by Ilneval? SCRAMBLE EVERYTHING! PANIC! DEPLOY THE CHOSEN OF GAATHMAR! KILL THAT 25 HP BASTARD FAST!
