It was really more meant as a sort of 'bad old days' memory that somehow seems more funny in retrospect than it was at the time. It may serve to illustrate just how sick we all were of the random lightning deaths that the evil cleric from my story, one of the most hardcore roleplayers I have ever met, gave the good cleric an OOC raise afterwards... after he had stopped laughing hysterically at the sheer absurdity of the timing, that is...

I agree that even a very small change in this would be enough to make the server very much more immersive. Neat to have so reasonable DM's. =)
