While we're at it, we should make it so that a fighter's sword is an actual item that you can take if you subdue him!

Srsly, though, I think the OP has merit.  It won't be as game changing as Wizard Spellbooks, but it could add some additional flavor.

"Alright cleric of torm, let me check you pack to see if your innocent"
[Finds a holy symbol of Cyric]
"You are under arrest and to be put on execution cyrist. I hope you rot!"
