SF: Transmutation and GSF.

Really, Transmutation is a pretty awful school. in terms of SF and GSF there are about two spells that most wizards on efu will get that have a save and benefit from these feats.

I noticed that certain school feats have neat bonuses, eg: increase dispel level and lower summon points.

My suggestion is fairly simple, tranmuters are the best at changing environments and physical atributes, so why not give say a 10% and 20% increase in spell duration from this school. its not too overpowering, but it would definately give a slightly better advantage for transmuters to buff people over the other spellschools.

My original idea was to give all lvl 1 transmutation spells instant empowering with SF:Transmutation. and All level 2 transmutation spells instant empowering with GSF. though 1. this might not be possible, 2. maybe overpowering

please throw ideas out for further ways this might be amended or improved.

thoughts?

Auto empowering on burning hands would be very strong, and clerics with GSF trans and emped statbuffs would be ridiculous indeed. Especially multiclass ones.
Adding a percentage duration increase though could be a cool way to make them noticeably better at transmutations.

Just throwing this out:

The standard level 2 buff spells are 1d4+1 to a stat.

Perhaps Focus: Transmutation could cause a roll of 1 to be a reroll (if that's even possible) or else simply raise it as if it had been one higher than it is.

Greater Focus, similarly, would have that occur with the two bottom rolls.

The result, then, is that with no focus feats, it's 2-5.  with Focus, it's 3-5.  With Greater Focus, it's 4-5.

The overall power won't be dramatically increased, but it will be made more consistent.

Thoughts?

(Obviously a reroll would result in an even distribution between 3, 4, and 5 in the Focus case, while the manual increase would result in a 50% likelihood of a 3, and 25% likelihoods each of 4 and 5.  This means the reroll option is likely preferable.)

Barehander

Mechanically, it wouldn't have to be a reroll. Simply use a formula of 1d4+2 and 1d4+3, capped at 5. I would imagine that's simple enough to write (-1 if result > 5, or something).

This, of course, would make GSF give +5 stats 3/4 of the time, which is rather powerful.

Equinox

Its powerful, but no more so than reduced summon costs giving you increased summons. Its no more powerful that abjuration giving your spell breaches ability to rip of 3 buffs or 4 buffs with gsf.

Nightshadow

I like that re-rolling idea, personally. Just change the formula to 1d3+2 with SF and 1d2+3 with GSF. Or if that's deemed too powerful, just keep it all at 1d4+1 and you get one re-roll of it if it's in the re-rolling range (1 with SF, 1-2 with GSF), which may wind up giving you yet another low result.

derfo

i think successful slows and bestow curses are rather underestimated, though i can agree that transmutation spell focuses are sort of subpar

if anything, i think it would be cool to let those spell focuses grant a few more forms to polymorph self and/or enhance current ones somewhat

Haha, yeah. I don't know why I was making it so complicated, this is obviously easier (and the likelihood of any of the available outcomes is the same).

I'm not sure how you'd script an actual re-roll.

Nihm

It would be nice if someone with greater spellfocus : transmutation could have access to a Polymorph : Self form others don't, dependant perhaps on alignment.

Barehander

None of that alignment stuff, IMO. It's cliché and doesn't necessarily make any IC sense. Sounds like another cool idea in general, though.

SkillFocuspwn

Having more and more powerful monsters to turn into for a transmutation specialist would really be awesome

Thomas_Not_very_wise

Animals that we can turn stuff into with transmutation, much like the necromancy system currently in place for animations.

Maybe certain creations can be made using transmutation, augmenting other players, giving them increased stat bonuses through scripted means of magical augmentations...High risk, and with stat bonuses ranging from +1 versus fire, to +1 to str and other stats...

Hmmm

Equinox

For all we know this exists. Though I think that would be too powerful Thomas.

However, Derf's idea of a form for SF and a form for GSF would be very cool. Something different from the norm, maybe even island related?

Mist Ogre Form anyone?
