Making exploring the wild more desirable

Quote from: Equinox;181694Side note: you do n-need- a group to explore the wilds, though it can make it more fun. I've often just gone wandering alone though, sometimes without stealth. If you want to explore, you need to accept there is risk, but it can pay off if you find that rare random on the other side of the island.

This.

I remember soloing a bunch of orcs (including a boss who dropped some sweet boots) and a random area right next to that spawn which only had a bunch of traps in it on my ranger. That was pretty rewarding.

Likewise, I was killed plenty of times by a stray Malar beast or (second, I could manage just one) Shargaas disciple I'd missed.

I personally think the wilds are fine as they are. If anything, we need more PCs in the taverns, libraries, prisons and such.

Egon the Monkey

The wilds is  rewarding already to nature PCs who can run the "supply" quest to the Exiled Camp or Stargazers and turn in food. I think though that this should be expanded to get more town-based PCs going out for more than questing. it would be simple enough to implement, as half of it's there already. Let Docks-spawning PCs turn in meats to the Rat Meat Seller, Ziggurat PCs to Johnny the Butcher, and have both general stores sell meat knives. Instead of Water Buckets, introduce more Ore Pile placeables. Instead of fruit trees, have bits by the stream where you can "pan out gold". I'm not sure about how to deal with herbs, since unlike nature PCs you're not likely to be a ranger or druid, or know one to check you won't wipe out all the plants,

Egon has feasible suggestions and I would love to see these implemented.

I think nature PCs have enough reasons to scour the wilds now also. Things specifically for city PCs to start wandering more like sunken or lost locked treasure chests, animal furs, more hero spawns/new current spawns, and other things that reward groups and not just stealthily going about solo.

Mort

It's very hard to find ways to reward groups and not solo people.

Currently, opening chests remove your stealth if monsters are nearby. And there is a chance they drink an see-invis potion if they notice a chest opening on its own.

I have noticed this, and it is awesome.

One way you could spice up the wilds for non-nature PCs without altering the balance is by increasing the number of exploration areas with merchants, and adding more things for sale in the stores.
