Persistent storage mail bins

Would it be possible or feasible to have some sort of persistent storage bin in the main inns (Kingsman & Wastrel) and maybe (if done IG/IC) in other places.

My thoughts are about the average of over 10 letters a day that are written on the corrispondance forum better than half of which don't even say where they left the letter, it must just float in the air in front of the person it was writen too. I also think it would be better to IG/IC actually force the players to spend the thousands of gold they pretend to have that they write on the forums with while IG they have nothing (I love seeing brand new PC's make ten posts before the PC actually hits the server, thats tff). Then there is the actual fact that could anybody actually receive the letter intended for them. (I love druids writing on leaves and putting it under a rock and such and the person it was meant for finds it! lmao)

Just my opinion but I think it would be much more fun to do the letter writting IG. Pay for the items needed (pen and paper), write the letter, perhaps pay to open the mailbox (storage bin) to both put your letter in and take it out (tip the guy!). It would make letter writting the luxury it really should be and perhaps get the scribes to be used for something other than looks. Perhaps even give keys to the mailboxes (work it like getting into the Gobsquat, key in or pay)...

This would also open new fields for PC concepts of simple things like scribe and letter carrier (runner/go'fer).

Silly idea, I know, but it's just a thought???

Amazing.

Agree completely.

Curse those pretenders and their fake gold.

Cerberus

Guild/Faction houses could have them made and installed outside the front door of thier building and part of the wanding into the faction lets them open the faction mailbox for free to check for mail.

idk, just having a brain fart I guess.

derfo

I'm pretty sure this is already more or less possible anyways, granted there aren't mailbox placables scattered about I guess

But if ink and paper cost so much money, why -doesn't- everyone write their letters with leaves and dung?

TheImpossibleDream

Yes, Porkolt is onto something. I really think you should have to pay for ink and parchment as well. Not much just a few gold pieces.

The letters forum's a good idea for a few reasons. It keeps lag and clutter down when everyone's not dropping IG notes all over the place, it ensures letters do reach the right place instead of getting taken by newbies thinking they are quest items,  and it is a lot more efficient, quick and aesthetically pleasing than IG text. See some of the Photoshopped adverts, for example.

As for the "pretend gold", well, the game economy's not meant to be perfectly realistic. Tobar will pay a measly 12 gp regardless of if you sell him a bag of herbs or a flawless diamond, you don't *have* to pay for food and drink, and merchant-bought ammunition and potions  are ridiculously expensive. If you like, consider the paper and ink to be paid for out the gold Tobar *should* pay  for stuff, or the same fund of copper and silver pieces PCs buy their non-existent rations out of ;).

IG notes and journals still have their place (If you have big secrets you want to rattle around the server once your PC dies, keep an IG journal) , but forcing them just will slow down communication and waste scripting time that could be spent on entertaining stuff, not EfU-Mail.
