The command /c checkpvp will allow a player to find out if there is a DM within a certain range, say one screen. It won't replace checking the /dm channel, but it will offer definitive evidence on when it is and is not okay to PvP. In fact, more than telling if a DM is around is that it tells the player if a DM is -not- around. Often times PvP can happen with the mistaken impression that a DM is present, and this leads to more trouble.

/c requestpvp will be a command available to players who cannot contact IRC without closing their game. The IRC bot Archipelago will say something to the effect of: : : ( A DM is requested for PvP in [area] ) : : This also broadcasts over the DM channel which player is requesting the PvP. This cannot be used more than once every five minutes, to prevent spamming.

Thoughts?

The first in negligible. You either have express DM notification in the form of "I'm here and ready" or you don't.

The second suggestion might have merit, but I doubt that broadcasting in IRC about the area and players involved in upcoming PvP conflict is a good idea.

Mort

Yeah. Maybe a requestpvp command.

I dont think the checkpvp command is wanted, however.

Same issue then, as the idea of Guard rods sending a message to the guards' IRC channel.

Unfortunate. If that issue could be resolved, there are probably a dozen other uses for In-game to IRC communication functionality. :(

MexicanGunslinger

Yes, could this be worked out someway? a great concept

Grovel grovel grovel.  Good ideas, but I'll have to add some features to the bot (hanging out in multiple channels and knowing which channel to send a message to).  If anyone knows PHP very well (that's what the bot is coded in), I could use a hand!
