Fire Elementals need to be immune to Fire

So today I made a new sorcerer who uses mostly fire magic, to find out that my burning hands spell is killing off the fire elementals I summon. These fire elementals need immunity to fire (I'm guessing the same basic thing is true for the other elementals, air elementals should probably be immune to electricity, and water should be immune to acid).

This is only the Summon Monster I, not sure if the other summons have the same problem, but I'll check as I gain levels.

It's an issue for all the summon themes.

Hrrrrm hrrrrrm.

Earth Elementals.

Cough Cough.

Electricity.

Cough.

I think its to keep us from making a wall of fire elementals and fireballing the monsters hanging on the wall into oblivion. They might refuse to do this over the balance issues.

Mind, I still wish we had it :(

SkillFocuspwn

With the new massive summons, Ebok is most likely correct. 2/3 casters could solo anything <_<

Obviously I don't mean that literally to all you hardcores but it would be pretty OP

At the very least some resistance, maybe 5% immunity if Fireballing is a concern.

Nightshadow

... Fireballing is a concern? A ton of the monsters seem to have evasion as it is, as well as extremely high reflex saves.

Fire Elementals are made of fire, having them hurt and killed by a fire is ridiculous, it's not like you can burn them.

It's a clever strategy that is perfectly legit, it's the sort of thing you'd expect a genius to do (and most wizards have an int of 16+, so they're geniuses), it's really not even as bad as a necromancer using negative energy burst to heal his undead while harming and draining the str of living enemies. If we're so concerned with balance why not make it so that negative energy burst can't heal undead? Or even destroys them?

Ebok

There is a very large difference. In all honesty. But as its the DMs call to this in general, (and this is hardly the first time in the last years that this issue has been brought up) Id suggest for the time being merely claim the the elementals are not destroyed by the fire, but actually become one with it as they break down into flames.

This might be balanced against the other elemental themes as well, seeing as how the prevalence of fire offensive spells far out weights the area of effect cold, acid, or lightening. (not that they don't exist, merely that the fire are more powerful/useful)

There are also quests that tend to stick to one theme, so having your fire elementals walling on orcs and being untouched by the combusts and fireballs but still drawing attacks from the wizards... might have something to do with the AI's inability to distinguish creatures. I dont know, but I dont really see this changing now. :/

Howlando

Of course it should be fixed so they're immune to fire.

Sheesh.

Paha

Fire elementals, ya know. Made of fire? More fire doesn't hurt?

What if you consider that fire consumes oxygen, thus a fireball could in fact deny a fire elemental oxygen they need to maintain constant combustion...?

No? Too picky?
