Regarding elves and paladin's

This is just a general question I guess. Under most things that I have read or come across, I have not found it viable for elves to have a true “Paladin” class amongst their own Seldarine â€" save the new elven goddess presented in races of the wild.

The reason for this question is in regards to what I had read under the class section. I noticed that Corellon Larethian was listed as a deity that could be followed by a paladin and wanted to see what everyone’s take on this was as this has been an issue in the past, based on the elves general nature being more ‘chaotic’ than lawful as well as the gods path being that of Chaotic Good as well.

Is this a class that can be chosen amongst the elves for this specific deity?

I guess i should start off by saying how i always have viewed the elven "paladin" in my own eyes. The way i have seen the Paladin's amongst the elves as more of a "holy warrior" who's codes and honor were focused more on elven tradition while sticking to a more lawful stance. By leading this life style, they would uphold the laws and virtues of the elves while serving in the image of corellon.

I would call them more of a Holy Warrior as opposed to a paladin however as i would see their codes slightly different than that of a true paladin - but this is where i guess many have always argued the point that elven paladin's dont exist for this reason alone.

The two exceptions to the LN/LG/NG rule for Paladins are Corellon and Sune. Elven Paladins, as such, are certainly acceptable.

I don't have races of faerun handy or anything, but I was under the impression sun elves racial alignment leaned lawful anyhow - so traditional paladins wouldn't be a stretch; I think an answer to as if they were exempt from the traditional paladin code would be handy though -- does the code, as written, only apply to human deities in general? Are there acceptable variations on the code?

Not directly related to elves, but I can recall reading about Baravar Cloakshadow's Knights of the Shadowy Cloak - an order of paladins that both works secretly, and sees a slew of evil humanoids as being 'beyond redemption' and fit for elimination; Arguably two actions sorta out of the norm for standard paladins.

A Paladin is a Paladin.

This is official and optional 3.5 material. I am sure it could be applied for in EFU.

Temporary hijack:
I once played a Rogue/Paladin who followed Baravar Cloakshadow. My take on it was that he used stealth and secrecy for noble purposes. Secrecy does not necessarily mean lying, only silence in the face of adversity, this however lead to his thumb being cut off by a certain goblin as interrogation torture. He also generally tried to keep a low profile, doing his god's work without advertising his intentions too much.

I have no doubt that if he had survived into higher levels, alignment conflicts would have arisen. But that's the nature of the beast!

Elven paladins are awesome. They restrict their freedom for the sake of the continued freedom of the elven race, yea!

Elven paladins wear those "freedom isn't free" shirts.

It's pretty much freedom that doesn't come for free in the world, isn't it?
