Intryzz of the Sleeping Pyrimo

The Underdark is home to hundreds of creatures. The sinister kin of the elves recognized as the drow, orogs which share many resemblances with the wild orcs, massive insectoid behemoths known as umber hulks, and a myriad further beasts. Amongst these horrors are the illithid. Perhaps the most infamous and recognized of the illithid, Intryzz, observed Sanctuary from its foundation.

Intryzz and Phandiates: The Origin of a Rivalry

More than thirty years ago, Intryzz faced Phandiates, also an illithid, in a gladiatorial competition. Phandiates cheated Intryzz in the contest, leading to the exile of the latter. The details of this deceit have not been discovered. Their rivalry did not end after the contest, but spanned over thirty years with Sanctuary as the battleground. Intryzz alleged to have created the Society of the Ordered Mind, a brotherhood of aberration huntsmen.

The Society of the Ordered Mind

Whether or not there is any truth to Intryzz’s claim, the Society of the Ordered Mind proved to be a persistent thorn in the side of Phandiates. Founded in the year 1366 by Rhiannon Kingsley, Armand Waters, Crueak Silverkin, and Malark Amblecrown, the Society robustly hunted thralls within the city. Thralls of both Intryzz and Phandiates were purged. The ordinants (members of the Society) murdered by blade and flame. Even women bearing children implanted by the illithid received no mercy. Several members of the Society joined House Archibald the destruction of Phandiates.

Alexander Archibald and Intryzz

Like the others of his kind, Intryzz hunted for servants, or more accurately, thralls. Yet, his approach was vastly dissimilar from his kin. Intryzz offered bliss, eternal happiness as he had for Alexander Archibald. (Of House Archibald, one of the founding Houses of Sanctuary.) Alexander Archibald freely approached Intryzz to ask for aid with the murder of his older brother. With the death of his brother, Alexander rose to become the lord of House Archibald, but soon succumbed to Intryzz and entered an eternal sleep forever to be in a state of bliss. Intryzz offered the same to the citizen of Sanctuary before its destruction. Members of House Archibald along with ordinants of the Society murdered Phandiates after a lengthy series of events orchestrated by Intryzz.

The Sleeping Pyrimo

Intryzz resided within the Sleeping Pyrimo, an established within the waters of the Dark Lake reached through a portal that is only perceptible to those holding a key. Intryzz offered visitors to the Sleeping Pyrimo riches, wealth, bliss, and anything that would appeal to the senses. Even beholders occasionally visited the Sleeping Pyrimo. Intryzz prohibited violence within the walls of the Pyrimo aside from the gladiatorial events he held. Failure to defeat ones foe could lead to death or enthrallment. Victors received rewards. Interestingly, Intryzz did not forcibly enthrall visitors to his inn but offered to enthrall them in exchange for power. Intryzz implanted his servants with a device that both granted exotic abilities and allowed for Intryzz to see through their eyes and control their acts.

Recent and Current History

Whether or not Intryzz remains alive is entirely unknown to me. Before the destruction of Sanctuary, he bestowed a last address to the citizen of Sanctuary. Presenting himself first as Alexander Archibald, he changed to his natural shape during the speech. In the address, he offered four options. To die against the hordes that would soon assail Sanctuary. Sanctuary has faced many enemies, and victory was still within hope at the time. The second of these offers, perhaps the most frightening, was to awaken the Appetite. Perhaps it could protect Sanctuary as Etorix had. The Chosen gave promise, claiming that the Appetite would reward them should they aid in its awakening The third was to hide. The Underdark is no less in scope than the Surface. The fourth option was to do the same as Alexander Archibald and offer their minds and bodies to Intryzz.

Mayhap Intryzz lurks still within the Underdark. Perhaps in some way he was connected to the Sated Shark. Both alluded to creatures of the waters. With the destruction of the Sated Shark, that mystery shall remain unanswered.
 
In conclusion I shall state that Intryzz was far more reasonable than the others of his kind. Regardless, he was a threat to all who entered the sleeping Pyrimo as even if not forcibly enthralling visitors, one could fall easily to his assortment of promises.
