Docks Improvements

I think the Docks has alot of potential to become a player hotspot, much in the same way that Lower Sanctuary was at various times. It is a superbly built area with a really good medieval sort of vibe, and definitely should be filled with more PC activity than it has been.

Despite how amazing the Docks are, and with the new addition of the speciality shops (fletcher, bard instruments, skinner etc) people just do not go there. People mill around outside Kingsman's which is close to the sending system, the inn, the only two merchants who buy goods and within range of a great deal of quests.

I propose that the following be added to the Docks, to attract people--

- A general store merchant who buys things for a max value of 15gp (making him more attractive than Tobar)
- More delivery quests leading into/out of the Docks
- More quest givers for quests of all level ranges
- Wanton Wastrel being reduced from 15gp to rest to 2gp or 5gp

Yes, I agree its sad that adding economical benefits might be the only way to attract people to awesome areas...but I can think of few other reasons why the Docks is so devoid of PC activity.

Once people start hanging in the Docks -as well- as the Ziggurat, new identities and allegiances will spring up, leading to new tensions and rivalries. In the end, recreating the cool aspects of the Upper/Lower dynamic might be worth it.

"You're from the Zig, eh? Careful you don't get your skirts muddy, pissant."

"Good grief, you live in the Docks? Remove yourself from my presence lest I catch disease, knave!"

ETC.

None of that can happen though, if players don't hang in the Docks. :(

i stay away from the docks because it's cluttered and the tileset seems to lag me

The Docks are a maze. No area where you can really gather in large groups but inside buildings.

Wonderful area though.

Thats the idea, I want some pc to make a law against loitering, and then see several people executed for repeated criminal activity <_<

That said another sending system would also be helpful and more importantly a GATE. Yes thats right a gate that leads from the docks to the wilderness a proper gate. (Outer Wall Forest would be my suggestion)

Outer wall forest would connect to the Gobsquat, if anything. However, there is a closed off area behind the Gobsquat that I think could technically link to the tunnels of the Docks if it were finished / available. If this were added in and a way out of the Gobsquat to the Outer Wall Forest you might see people staying away from the Ziggarut a little more.

There are a few things I was about to try Ic'ly as well and I guess this post has motivated me to actually do them :P

Semli

The area is pretty cool, and while the cramped alleyway feel is good for SOME of the area, I would argue the area is far too cramped as a whole to be a good hang out spot. Perhaps fiddling around with the area and making a larger thoroughfare for people to travel/loiter/fight on would be ideal.

That, and of course, implementing Caddies suggestions.

Garem

This could definately be a player lead initiative as well. Really, though, I don't think the current PC population has enough people in it that would be interested in the docks. Give it some time and some IC effort and this will probably start happening naturally.

Remember when everyone just loitered atop the ziggurat? That wasn't THAT long ago. Granted, the Kingsman isn't much further.

Another big reason people stay around Kingsman is that ONE market space that everyone goes immediately for. I've seen only one other of the many spaces used, and it's the nearest one. Keep PC market access in mind when trying to determine/alter behavior in game, too.

The Crimson Magician

Callout to all the shady thugs who never really did anything.

Docks is being improved IG by players. Just wait.

I have an interest in this as my PC is looking to get involved in the Wastrel and works from the Merchanthouse.

I would support this.
  • Firstly for a low one off payment sleeping could be free, or as described by Caddies very cheap.
  • Put more quest givers in bars, this makes people meet there more easily.
  • Put the odd trader who will buy/sell a variety of things in bars/more interesting places. If a trader buys all potions/healing pouches/stuff PC's will graviate towards them...
The PC efforts to do this IG will be something my PC will be aiming at so that bit i will be helping with anyway.
