Sadly, I made almost the same suggestion a few weeks back.

The primary reason listed against was -not- wanting to introduce more consumables.

There are dozen and dozens of different mushroom/fungi types accessible IG to be planted, harvested, and worked with herbalism to produce dozens and dozens of different consumeable types.

And as far as poisons go, in about a 20 second walk I found a plant that was usable a for poison. Yet I think it may not be that bad to have a few rare strains of plants that would impart a minor bonus and penalty. eg. leaf A is used to make a str tonic, yet when eaten alone it imparts a point or two of strength and drains a point or two of dex or con

If you're not sure where to start, you can try asking other people in character too, as some characters are quite knowledgable.

There is a cashe of mushrooms on the server, and within easy reach if you know where to look.
