Not sure how difficult this would be.... Doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to add as a voice command though.

Basically it would work like this.

Once every hour (or more, maybe once a day), a character can attempt to forage in any area where plants can be planted.

The check would roll against Spot + Animal Empathy + Lore + Ranger/Barb/Druid level.
Anyone can forage. However Rangers and Druids would be the best at it (naturally). Barbarian's would have a slight advantage over anyone else, as they spend a great deal of their time in the wild.

Now.. what are you rolling against? Well a base DC to find -something-. however the higher your roll is above the base dc, the better things you find.

This would be a great way to pass out more of those 'fresh' cuttings that decay after a server reset. Other fun additions might be mushrooms that cause random effects... perhaps even delayed effects. Some might poison outright. Some might grant buffs like trueseeing, ultravision, Str bonus, rage effects. Or... they might poison you after a period of time. You eat a shroom and nothing happens, but a few hours later you start to have to pass regular will saves in order to keep from getting dazed... or blinded.

Perhaps even some findings could be used as summoning reagents.

And if you really wanted to get fancy, you could localize things. Somethings are only found in forests, or near the shore, or in the mountains, etc. Some areas might be more likely to produce helpful items, while others have a better chance of harming you.

It can really be as fancy or simple as you desire. At the very least I'd like to see it as a way for people to get more of the decay-on-server-reset items.

There are already plants that grow and yield useful materials if you successfully harvest them (based on your knowledge of plantlife/herbalism, affected by class like druid/ranger/etc). They can only be planted in areas where they might be able to grow.

Thus, in places where you could forage, there are already plants (or could be growing plants).

Whether or not some of these existing plants could be modified to yield consumables, I don't know, nor do I know if it would be desirable.

Ah, well the true spirit of the suggestion was for nature types, and rarely others, to be able to collect a few of the 'fresh cutting' type consumables. Just a way to get a few possible goodies to use through the day.

Although being able to find mushrooms that can grant either good buffs or debilitating debuffs would be fantastic.
