I've been killed on three separate occasions where the tram kills me while I'm in a side pocket. It seems to occur in the second area, first pocket on the left.

Before I had thought it was just due to lag, however having died again, then tested it and died in that pocket, I believe it is a bug.

If it's the nook with the statue, you have to be tight up to the statue to be safe.  Haven't done this quest in a very long time, but I remember that cove being dicey.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

"Maybe there's just one revolution.  The good guys against the bad guys.  The question is, who are the good guys?"

It's not that one. It's the one before that. The only pocket without loot. I tested it by being as far in as possible, and still got killed.

Its just a bug, had a DM watching me when it happened before.

Just don't use that cove.

Those who died, we salute you!

And yeah, its a bug... died to it a bit ago as well.

Edit: Perhaps we can get a sign outside that one saying "dont use this one?"

Or just make it completely blocked off.

Faux News

The trams have buggy hitboxes in general, the one talked about here is an issue but there are several other problematic areas too. I've also been 'run over' by a tram and not even had to make the save, so yeah. It seems like it'd be a hard quest to make work properly. Maybe a sign from the quest-giver in that one specific spot could be appropriate, though.

The questgiver does warn you about making sure you're VERY FAR away from the Tram as you might get sucked in by the air-currents or something, IIRC.
