[This book is written in a spidery style and mysteriously appeared on the shelf. The only sign of an author is on the back of the parchment of animal skin, it is signed by, "Rubyclaw the Third, Lord of the Eighth Mountain in the Mists, Slayer of Mist Ogres."]

Hatred. Fear. Spite. Envy. Loathing. Cowardice. Jealousy. Why does it seem that all the worlds evil's are confined to this singular emotions, do people understand why we feel them? Is it because the warmbloods of the world sometimes act before thinking, make decisions without proper discourse upon the actions of others?

Kobolds feel these bitter emotions, as well, they have no place for the warmer emotions in their soul. They toil each and every day in efficient work gangs, split into clearly defined castes. Every Kobold wishes to work harder in order to enrich himself, every kobold is jealous of the other kobold, every kobold hates each other, and often designs spiteful pranks and tricks in order to belittle each other, and raise himself in their world of castes, a regimented society where everyone has his or her place, be it tending eggs, or mining the very earth in a way that would make dwarves jealous.

But it is these emotions that have allowed the Kobold race to exist since they were created, before the first humans walked the world, before the elves had their war. Before the dwarves appeared from the stone, and the gnomes walked from the hills of gold. Before the Stargazers were cast out from the heavens and stars, and live in the trees, longing for the day of their return.

They were here. Working, mining, building, talking, designing, hunting, all the works of a civilized race. The people were many, but they suffered a fatal flaw, they did not know what it meant to love, and they still do not, they do not know the meaning of friendship, they distrust, simply because it is their nature, but they are an extreme society at times, favoring law and order at any costs, even when it seems oppressive and cruel. When given an opportunity, a Kobold will try and change an environment to his liking, and almost always this environment will be organized, categorized, and no mess will be seen.

It seems odd that such a society could exist, but the Kobold tribes go out of their way to not be seen. They are fully aware of their frail, and often weak bodies that many adventurers hold in contempt, but this does not concern them, their power lies in their cunning, many of you scoff at this, but if you have ever attacked a Kobold tribe, you will know that each foot your place in front of you, will likely hold traps, poison, pits, and more. Ambushes at every corner, volleys of crossbow fire- few adventurers enter a kobold tribe when they know they are prepared, fewer escape alive in such an event. A kobold will throw its' life away, charging suicidally knowing full well it might be his left breath for the good of the tribe, so that the females might escape with the young so the tribe might live again. This is not bravery, or even courage, it is for the continuation of the tribe, not out of some false sense of glory- such thoughts never occur to a Kobold. Survival is the very premise of their dark existence, a race that hates all others from the beginning eon of their existence for being hunted, despised, and scorned...
