Hey so I have been playing a Jungle Hunter barbarian for a little while. I was going to wait to post this once i tried out how it felt at lvl 8, but didn't make it. So I'm going ahead and posting now because I think I have a decent feel for the perk.

As far as sneaking goes, the perk is fair at it. Since hide and MS are not class skills, you wont be able to put many points in them. Any druid, ranger or rogue is easily better at it for various reasons, depending on where they put skill points of course. If you want to make a stealthy PC, you have much better options.

The rage is interesting in that you have no downsides to it, you get a huge bonus to your stealth and AB+2. It last a long time, mine lasts 13 minutes at lvl 6. Since I choose to wear gear with stealth bonuses, I give up some of the AC I could have.

Then there's the use poison feat, which I have found to be mostly useless. The poisons that are harvested don't work on weapons at all, from my experience. The poisons you find on bodies do, but their duration is short and you get attacks of opportunity if you use them in combat. So in the end, what sounds like a cool thing: a poison weapon wielding badass, just doesn't happen, for me anyway.

My feeling is the perk could use some adjustments here and there to make it more fun to play and able to compare to the survivability and utility that other classes/perks enjoy. Without some adjustments, I would strongly suggest that someone not play this class unless they want to play a character with less power and abilities. It seems easy to achieve the same effect, a sneaky fighter, with other classes and do it MUCH better.

So heres my ideas, in no particular order, that might make it better. I am not sure what is possible given the code and to be clear, I'm just a newb playing a Jungle Hunter.


  • add sneak attack
  • fix poison in some way to be more useful
    • auto apply to weapon in combat?
    • no AOO when applying poison?
    • longer duration?
    • fix harvested poisons to work on weapons?

  • make hide and MS class skills so that more points can be spent
  • increase the bonus to hide and MS given by Rage
  • increase AB bonus in Rage
  • add a bonus to AC while in rage
  • increase save or resistances to things, example would be poison there might be other that make sense.
Anyway, I wonder if anyone else has played this perk or has some thoughts what could be done.

It might be nice if the perk got tracking because of its pretty high spot/search bonuses, but altogether this perk tends to have its advantages centered around the ridiculous speed boost and its ability to stealth past most if not all creatures on the server. It's not meant to be in the vein of "hulk smash" barbarian perks.

Mass Transit

Maybe if tracking was given to jungle hunter, since it gets bonuses to some of the skills requires, which are not class skills, and use poison given to tribal guardian?

to add to this poison buffing idea, maybe just have poison the whole duration of rage?

Or maybe, once per day add 1 special poison to inventory that has longer duration. 2 when at lvl 6.

Knight Of Pentacles

Sacrifices its combat ability for a few trivial utilities that could be had in numerous other classes.  If that's your thing, then it's an alright perk.

The description says the Jungle Hunter is better at resisting toxins, however there's nothing in the ability list that backs that up.   Maybe give them a bonus to poison resistance?

Well maybe just repairing this harvested poision bug would do. You can harvest poisionss but they dont work? Its clearly bug which should be repaired. + would make this perk more poision based since spiders are everywhere. Only problem would be license for poision holding if you want to ever step into city.

The harvest poison bug was fixed yesterday. So that is fine and confirmed working.

Thanks Talir, at least that will make the availability of poisons more...available.

Any word on poison resistance for this perk? It does say so in the perk description.

Added +3 saving throw vs Poison at level 1.

Added double poison weapon duration at level 8.
