I know these were mostly put in for people to mug/protect but it would make some sense if they actually hunted the rock worms and didn't stand there next to them.  Maybe set them on hostile factions to each other?

Hrm. The issue might become that the wormingers can then be easily overcome by enough spawns of rockworms and give up their "mugging only" loot to characters who just come across the bodies.
