Prior to my anniversary event last night, there was a large PvP incident.

It was confusing and disrupting and I asked the attacking PCs to log out as I could not possibly deal with it appropriately.

I do consider the incident partially my fault as the players on the antagonistic side did warn me that they might be attacked by everyone. I'll also remind players that just because other PCs are hostile doesn't mean that they're necessarily engaging PvP. It appears to be an occasional issue in which a group of antagonistic PCs rightly set the server to hostile, show up, and then the PCs that see them just blindly attack - this is not ideal so please remember that hostility is an OOC mechanic and that if you wouldn't attack immediately if they were blue you shouldn't do so if they're red.

Regardless, we should all remember to try to avoid large PvP incidents for server-wide events as it just doesn't work very well. Assuming, of course, that the PvP isn't related to the theme of the event. Basically - big laggy confusing events aren't the best time to pursue an unrelated PvP agenda unless it's cleared with supervising DMs.

I think the best way to handle the unfortunate OOC dimensions of the PvP last night is to just say it didn't happen.

Thank you for your cooperation!
