Sandstorm

The old EFU planting system led to an abudance of lag inducing persistant plants, which usually had no meaning except for the three or four PCs who pursued alchemy, or wantonly beat the poor plants to death.
 
I would like to see a system where the plants gave minorly useful things, but could only be harvested by rangers/druids/appropriately wanded other PCs, in the same vein as the Orchard Trees quest, but less useful. These things would give minor benefits, such as virtue, resistance, cure minor wounds, ironguts, expedious retreat. For example, a druid may pick some apples from a tree to distribute to a group he was going with to keep them healthy. I give low magic suggestions so that it is not immediately unbalancing to the server, but it may be beneficial to add rare seeds of more potent things, like maybe a bloodfruit tree that gave blood frenzy or endurance with its fruits. These things would take longer to grow-- maybe 5 or 6 times as long as the current system, so that there would not be bloat. They would also be removed from peoples inventory on reset, representing that fruit rots when not connected to the tree.
 
Some of the current things could be kept, but I feel that most of the great system was left to rot, and was not pursued. Planting and gardening should be useful as part of the server, insead of an asthetic, like it seemed to turn out to be. I cannot speak for anyone else, but playing a druid currently, I would like to see a lot of beneficial interaction with nature, instead of merely hostile NPCs (exaggeration).

You don't have to be a druid or ranger to make something grow. Aside from that, I don't really have any opinion of the rest of your points.

I actually asked about this. I recall a DM telling me that the plants in EfU didn't cause all that lag we had near the end. Somebody posited that it might be a reduced NPC vault.

I agree, however, that plants and such with more immediate benefits could be interesting, in addition to the ones planned for the crafting systems. I believe there is a thread open if you want to suggest plants and such to the DMs.
