In a moonless night, a creature of pure malice, hatred and fury entered the Underdark through a hole in the earth, one of the several holes that earth makes in order to swallow needed preciosities when the time is right. The creature wasn't only an epitome of evil, the nemesis of everything of pure and kind that existed, no: she was also a creature of nature, deeply bounded with the world and the ley, even having her touches with the fey. Above everything, a creature of the surface, of the struggles between the day and the night, the moon and the sun.

Down there in the 'dark, deep there, in a nook of luxurious and abundant fungal growth, such hideous -- did I say she was hideous? Yeah, the hideous, horrendous, petrifying thing met a tribe of pure vegetable folk. Creatures of fungus and plant, of leaves, lichen, moss and mold, known by some as Vegepygmies, they had queens that assured the strongest power and as leader, a male (or more masculine) one. The Chieftain of the tribe, of great prowess and adequate seeds, interested the instincts of the tenebrous, but powerful female. She disguised herself as a being of equal tendrils and vegetation, so to learn of their ways of multiplying, spreading and communing with the strong Underdark ley powers. From the chieftain and its seeds, from the russet mold and the body of a strong rival, she conjured a being that would be the child of the Moldmire itself and her own womb. A breed mixed from the surface with the secrets of the Underdark, from the plant people and the... wyrd (hag?) people...

The portrait of hers. I didn't upload it because 1 hour after I finally managed to fix out the colors, she was dead.
Thorn slept in a bed of russet mold for four decades, inebriated by its sedative spores. There, the mixing and maturation of her innate potential reached a point of symbiotic relation between the heritage of the surface and the gifts of the fungi life of the Moldmire.

She would need more time to fully mature. Although, all the last incidents in the Moldmire started the premature process of awakening that leaded to the naive, frail and confused Thorn that was then born.

Cannon Lore
QuoteIn a time long ago Green Mary lived as a protector of the woodlands and its creatures, a beautiful druid with a forest domain encompassing hundreds of miles. Making her home at her forest's heart, protected and served by the creatures that she in turn watched over, Green Mary worshiped and obeyed the spirits of nature and their timeless laws. On the day the winds whispered of danger and the crows squawked of death, she investigated their reports. Her search led her to a powerful and skilled hunter who stalked her animal wards out of sport and felled the trees to make his weapons. Although the voices of the forest cried out for revenge against the careless hunter, Green Mary found him as comely as he was dangerous. Moved to speak with him, she became entranced by his silken words and he compelled by her beauty. That night, Green Mary defied the timless whispers of the forest and lay with the source of their wrath.

The next morning, the hunter awoke to find his lover horrifically transformed. The forest had reclaimed its servant's willful body, changing her milky skin into gnarled bark, her raven hair into vines, and her soft hands into twisted claws. Realizing the extent of her sin, Green Mary obeyed her spirit masters' orders with a fearful and repentant fervor. When it was done, not even a drop of the hunter's blood remained to stain the verdant ground.

And then?
As a True Neutral, her path was open towards any of the extremes of the D&D Moral Axis. My personal preference was to make her NE and make her go through the traditional Green Hag Metamorphosis.

I even had found my hunter to push her towards the Legendary Doom. But EFU is merciless and sometimes the story ends up being much harsher and less poetic.
Witchcraft

So... what happened?

CondorHero

Well judging from other posts on the forum, looks like she got killed. I've only seen thorn around in the wild, but never had the chance to interact with her in any meaningful way. :( This character, I felt, was nipped at the bud. (sorry about the pun)

NecronomiconV

A character killed too soon :( shame on whoever killed you

Mortui

A character killed way too soon imo. She was interesting to say the least.

Deadlykate

GG no more mushroom pcs, was way to quick.

Ok... folks!

Now, much less bitter and with access to a faster connection, I can finally bury Thorn and move on to next ha- I mean, concept.

I loved her and I loved telling her story. I think I even loved her end, as premature and hurting it was. It ended to be fitting and quite appropriate. Thanks, mister hunter.

Everyone that joined the ride, cheers!

I beg the pardon of those that were touched by my bitterness. I need to learn to roll with the flow without so many.... thorns.
