Beetroot and I spent so long placing doppelcooler traps in the lower archives that I apparently missed several days. I suppose it is hard to tell the time with the lack of light down there. Bashir has been promoted, how lovely for him, and he wishes Ekmel and I to be promoted to be his undersecretaries. Very esteemed for us. The keys to the proverbial kingdom. We'll see if Chief agrees.

Narwen and I have finished our duet and my songs for the party are finally in a spot I'm happy with them. It takes time to be creative, but it all gets done in the end.

Marcellus is running. It will be a tough fight. He's paid me an advance of 2,000 dinar to be in charge of his campaign advertisements. Bellows announcements, jingles, and paper advertisements. I need to pin down what exactly he wants printed and said. Probably before the primary ends. Ekmel seems keen to help out too which is good. He's very suitable for a limerick.

There once was a Scribe in a mask,
To serve the law was his holy task,
So he ran a mock trial,
With flair and with style,
To prune the legal arts with but an ask.

Bashir offered me a promotion, and Chief has signed the paperwork. Bureaucracy is slow to turn but I should be getting some Stele training, which is good. I think Ekmel is in the running for a similar promotion.

Ash had me brew her loads of vials for Kha'esh, which turned out to be a Gods-send because I hear it was absolute carnage. Something about Seekers and Titans, and Marcellus almost getting killed. That man! He pays me to run his campaign then nearly gets turned into paste! Seething doesn't describe it, and Chief is probably pulling her hair out over the whole affair. Luckily Ash is safe, although I heard Halim died. Shame that.

I've been taking to lifting Selwyn's spirits by pretending there's a doppelcooler of them running around. I think Selwyn might've written a love poem for me, and while I'm flattered, I'm not after anything serious. So to throw them off the trail, I've been talking about how a doppelcooler is probably imitating them and leaving love notes for Maddicus. They seemed real distraught over Halim's death so I'm hoping this little farce will cheer them up. Either that, or there is a doppelcooler of Selwyn leaving love poems for Maddicus and it's preying on my soft heart! Those damn doppelcoolers!

Anyway. I've written a little limerick for Selwyn, given they're one of the only members of the Tower who has a fragment of decency in them. Well, them and Shum Sheroy.

There once was a halfling in blue,
Hair white, and bespectacled too,
With a lilt in their tune,
Do they turn to the Moon,
A good egg in the Tower? Who knew!
