Sergeant Colmes,

I have a crime to report enacted by two of your Janissary.  I was approached this day by one Malcom Gowthray  and asked to submit to a search which I complied with. He was satisfied with the search and allowed me to be on my way. I had later that day opened my stall in the Souk, and he came to browse my wares and questioned a couple of items in my possession, a skull helmet and a mace with a skull forged upon it. Both, bounties claimed from monsters fallen in and around the well.

I was then approach again later that day by two Janissary- Malcom and Wulfsege Greysen. I was told I was being charged with minor desecration for the two aforementioned items and that they would be confiscating them and fining me 100 dinar.  I questioned them given that the law specifies what these crimes are and that their accusations do not fit that criteria, but they were disinterested in discussing it further and threatened me with unlawful resistance. I paid the fine and surrendered the goods as they drew there weapons and threatened that things would get violent if I did not comply. The items in question were valued at a total of 700 dinar. I have multiple witnesses and I have witness to confirm where the items were claimed from.

Given that no desecration took place as it is clearly stated within the law that minor desecration is the disturbing of graves or taking from them, I have been falsely accused of this crime and demand immediately recompense for my losses. I am a law abiding voiced citizen of the well and I will not abide bullying and thuggery from our defenders. I hope you take this matter seriously as I would hate to have to escalate this further and bring it to trial for a serious offence of theft against my person.  This is a matter of principle and I hope it is taken seriously. I await your response.

Citizen Ghorak,

The boundary of desecration-- a person found guilty of attempting to dishonor, defile or animate the dead-- does not end at where you happened to recover the items that the Janissaries confiscated. I had the opportunity to review the items myself, and read the report filed.

-A helm fashioned from a human skull.
-A skull carried on a stick, with benefits to spellcasters divine or arcane, to be wielded in battle

Do you believe it is appropriate to sell such items to the populace for a combined total of seven hundred dinar, as if they weren't human remains? I know my men did not. I trust their judgement in this.

I will have words with them on their...eagerness to deliver the consequences of unlawful resistance.  If that is not enough to please you, and you seek to bring the matter into the courts, that is your prerogative.

Sergeant Colmes,

As one who studies history and the  remains of civilisations that once were, I would say I am more then qualified to comment on the bones of the deceased. I can assure you these were beastly skulls -not- human remains as you state in your response. It is very common in many cultures, including your own, from the many who walk around with these adornments, as trophies, not only their inherent magical properties.

There is no dishonour intended in selling a skull of a beast, quite the opposite, hence the culture of adorning bone in many outfits if not as blatant. There is no defilement nor attempt to animate the dead in any of my actions. I placed the value based on their aspect and functionality as any good merchant would. Just because you are your men have a distaste of something doesn't make it illegal.  I am prepared to take this further on principle and see charges brought against your men if we can not remedy this matter. I've consulted a legal professional who assures me this is a simple and easily settled matter in my favour so I would ask kindly that you reconsider your opinion.

I eagerly await your reply.

Citizen Ghorak,

You'll have to see if the Legates share the opinion of your legal professional. If not, I imagine that wasting their time for a 100 dinar fine may result in them making an example of you.

If your principles demand that you see this through,  so be it.
