After much delay, I am glad to finally be introducing a new Minor Faction, the Keepers of the Sacrosanct Fount of Saintly Waters

The Sacrosanct Fount of Saintly Waters, once located in the foothills of the Anauroch Desert, was a Holy Site and Pilgrimage Destination for time immemorial, loosely associated with worship of the Triad but in actuality pre-dating the worship of Torm, Ilmater, and Tyr by many millennium. The waters were renowned for their healing and curative powers as well as the insights and blessings provided to those Saintly figures who dared to fully immerse themselves within the sacred pool. For centuries the Fount has been protected by a series of holy figures known as the Three Keepers: The Protector, the Reflector, and the Adjudicator. According to ancient tradition, each Keeper would appoint a novice who would replace them as they died. In this manner has a very small organization maintained its saintly purpose and curious traditions for many centuries.

With the Darkening, the three former Keepers willingly self-sacrificed themselves in the pool and so allowed for a Miracle which caused the Fount and the small shrine that covers it to be transported to a deep, distant cavern far beneath the earth. The Fount, its small shrine, and its Saintly Waters now are located in some secret location somewhere within the Underdark.


This faction is limited to a total of three fully fledged members: the Protector, the Reflector, and the Adjudicator. Although their primary purpose must always be to preserve the Fount from desecration or destruction at the hands of the wicked, each also believes that they are compelled to enter into the wider world and do what they can to defeat evil and use the powers of the Fount to aid the righteous.

Minor Faction

Application: Required only when the faction is empty. To otherwise join, your character must be either elected by the current members to fill an empty position or be appointed as a Novice by a current Keeper and then assume his place should the character die or be retired. Alliance and association with the group may naturally otherwise occur according to IC acts.

Recommended Alignment: Lawful Good

Recommended Race: Human

Recommended Class: Cleric, Monk, Paladin, Fighter, Sorcerer. Other possibilities may exist. Keeper paladins and clerics may have "The Fount" in their deity field in order to receive spells and blessings (consult with a DM for details).

Due to its small nature and high conflict potential, not necessarily recommended for new players although alliance may prove very productive.

This is a small faction intended for those seeking to portray an extreme version of Lawful Good that is on a serious mission.

For those interested in participating in a prelude and portraying one of the three founding members, please seek me out through forum PM or IRC with a rough idea for a concept. After we chat you can submit a brief application. In terms of background, players should assume that their character will begin as one of the novices for the NPC keepers. Note that the titles of the Three Keepers does correspond with their duties both within the shrine and beyond (protection, reflection, adjudication).

It is possible for the Fount, and all the holy boons it provides, to be destroyed by other characters which will result in the permanent end of this faction. That will, however, not be at all easy.

Some common questions so far:

The Protector is of course focused on defense and the physical protection of the Fount

The Reflector tends to be focused on prayer, meditation, and offering wisdom and guidance in all matter of things

The Adjudicator seeks to wisely correct injustice wherever it can be found

Background is not important, but the initial three characters will begin as novices to the NPC Keepers. The initial location of the Shrine is the foothills of the Anauroch desert (again, not very important though).

Special consideration will be given towards those players who are enthusiastic about helping develop traditions, lore, atmosphere, and flavor for this new group.

Probable domains of clerics will be renewal, suffering, good, healing, protection, water, and knowledge.

There may be something else to go along with that.

There's been a lot of interest already and we can only choose three, so I would recommend submitting something quickly. Please don't be upset if you do end up getting declined in the first round, the faction will surely be around for a while and I'm confident there will be opportunities for many players to experience it.
