Transition Loading Times

So, as of late it's felt to me as if the length of loading times between transitions have been slower than usual. For example, I will go through a transition first with a bunch of other people following me. When the next area loads up, however, those same people are ten to twenty steps ahead of me.

Naturally, this can be problematic for a number of reasons. So I'm wondering if any of you ought there have any suggestions for tweaks of configuration changes that could help cut down on area loading times.

Having tested, I haven't noticed anything wrong, though it's very normal that if a lot of people hit transition, some will get queries in slower than others.

Myself I have a fiber connection and fast machine so I load stuff fast. Hence I can't really say much where it slows down. However it's pretty safe to say, we cannot much affect to that. We can affect how each area loads, cutting back placeables / size, etc. but it won't make you any faster in relation to others.

Most likely they just got faster connection and machine.

Back in the old days my connection was so slow, that when I transitioned and came out the other side, they were already scattered through the area thinking I either double transitioned to transitioned stealthed. It was very useful when being chased, 3+ minutes transition. But made pursuing people on my old watchmen impossible.

Generally speaking, this will always cripple your ability to PvP. I had some fights that were over simply because they gave up looking for me before I'd show up.

Generally speaking there is no way to correct this issue. Some people will /always/ load faster then others. You'll just have to find out how to make use of the situation. I would suggest dropping an emote like: [Skids to a stop, turns around, bolts back the way she came.] And then transitioning back. (the emote is necessary to not trigger the double transition exploit of hiding in the loading screen). But if they reacted fast enough, you'd end up being behind them... or in the middle of them again, if they realized they could wait for you at the transition. (which is almost as bad as someone double transitioning!)

I had to find IC reasons to explain the slow transitioning–since there was no way to justify it in a competitive manner.

>_> This is slightly off topic, but I cannot atest to the change in load time recently.

To note: it seems your video drivers can play a huge factor in affecting the transition loading speed. Using my adventures as an example, I was previously using drivers for my Radeon HD card that were released back in 2012. It would take me approximately five seconds to load an area. I updated to AMDs latest drivers for the Radeon HD cards and that increased loading times from five to ten seconds.

Finally, I uninstalled Catalyst Control Center and installed the oldest Radeon HD drivers I could find (ones released back in 2011) and that dropped my loading time to two seconds.

This obviously isn't a suggestion for most people, but if you have an SSD NWN1 is only a couple gigs. I have NWN on my SSD and transitions are close to instant, only bottlenecked by what I assume is the internet being the internet.

I can mostly confirm that the problems are with your computer and not the server. I've got 3 graphics cards and an SSD and I load so much faster than most people that I've gotten in the habit of letting large groups of players go ahead of me and I'll still transition out the other side first.
