Dwarves of the Morndinsamman

Yes I spelled it right, it is definitely Morndinsamman...wait just let me look it up again...yes....it is Morndinsamman, I am sure this time.

Introduction

Well I figured it was about time to put up a more official introduction thread to what some of us dwarven PC's currently around are trying to work at. If you've ever wanted to play a dwarf with a bit more depth of character (as much as we all love our scottish dwarven kin), now is a great time. We are still getting things started, but there are a lot of big plans, inter-dwarf disputes over the future of the Stout Folk, and some cool long-term plans that haven't yet started.

The Beginning
Shield Dwarf: Before the fall of Toril to the forces of the Dread Empire (Mind flayers), the Shield Dwarves were gruff, isolationist people. Perhaps just as likely to seal the doors to their heavily fortified mountain holds as they might be to charge out and help their neighbors against any large threats to the land. However the Shield Dwarves were not nearly as united and secure in their future as their Gold Dwarf kin. The lands of Toril are dotted by countless lost  holds, keeps and kingdoms once belonging to the Shield Dwarves.

Gold Dwarf: In comparison to their Shield Dwarf kin, the Gold Dwarves enjoyed prosperity beyond compare. The Gold Dwarf empire, centered in the Great Rift (and Deep Realm, the portion of the empire that extended into the Underdark below the Great Rift) was a vast, sprawling dwarven kingdom of industry and craft. Having enjoyed such prosperity whilst standing firm against their many enemies, the Gold Dwarves never had to expand to further regions until the Thunder Blessing came and caused a boom of population, forcing many to adventure far from home. Gold Dwarves are prideful, almost eladrin in their self-assured superiority as being born to the greatest race (the dwarves), and being the greatest of the dwarven races (Gold Dwarf). Gold Dwarf society takes great care in keeping extensive records of lineage and deeds of dwarven clan lines. To Gold Dwarves possessions measure the value and their standing in society. When great dwarves of heroic deed die their remains are aften taken to be cremated and forged into objects that might be appropriate for their profession in life; a warhammer, a stone door, a suit of armor. These ancestral relics often gain sentience and magical powers relating to the dwarf whose remains they contain.
The Fall of Toril

With the fall of Toril to the Dread Legion, the many halls, holds and kingdoms of both Shield and Gold dwarves have seemingly been lost. All the ancient lines, traditions, records, history and more. Perhaps to a dwarf the lost of so much of what they take pride in would be devastating. Driving some to despair, others to apathy, and yet others to be driven to preserve, protect and restore what was lost.

Sanctuary

Now the dwarves of all the Morndinsamman find themselves in Sanctuary. Their fates unsure, no clear clan, thane or king to answer to. Some swearing off the life of clan without a clear clan to lead and rule them. Others claiming to wish to reclaim their long clan traditions lost during the fall. And yet still others are content to simply survive, exist and integrate themselves into what is left of society without over eager dwarves trying to relive the glory of clan life.

OOC Information:
  • Alignment: Any
    • The majority trending towards Lawful or Good
  • Race: Dwarf; Shield or Gold
  • Class: Any
  • Note: At this time there is no official faction, merely a community of dwarves in Sanctuary trying to survive and find their future, whatever it might be.
  • Sub-Forum: PM Snoteye for access to the sub-forum group "Dwarves of the Morndinsamman" if you play a dwarf and is in contact with the dwarven community on a regular basis. Degenerate or openly vile/corrupt dwarves might not make much sense having access. Use your best judgement!
  • Help: If you're interested in playing a dwarf of the Morndinsamman (dwarven pantheon), come by #dwarves in IRC for any questions, or comments, or just to idle in and chat about dwarf stuff!

Also note that this opportunity to make a Gold Dwarf brother of Torrak Thunderheart (and be part of the now mostly destroyed clan Thunderheart) still exists, with at most 5 more possible (as of this writing).

Updated this to reflect more what it is current. A community of dwarves getting by, not an official faction in itself.
