Montgomery Dredzle and his Customary XP

While I appreciate the presence of Montgomery Dredzle as an outcast gnome survivor being given a place in the Garden of the Lost and as a sign of the gnomish fey heritage, I have to note that his presence attracts a chain of PCs who do nothing but talk to him and leave for that customary XP reward, notably while others might be present.

Perhaps his presence there was to encourage roleplay and view of the garden, but this is not the case at all, and when the effort is made to engage those who come to listen to the gnome's joke, they ignore the effort or even just run in and run out - it all feels a tremendously OOC pursuit solely for XP/reward.

I have seen it happen on many occasions while in the Garden, and it always breaks immersion.

My suggestion is to remove Montgomery Dredzle's quest or move him outside the Garden.

It is through Art, and through Art only, that we can realise our perfection.

Reminds me of the bag of unneeded things in the Stargazer's tree back in efu:a. Plenty of humans would stroll in, dig through the savages' stuff and stroll out.

I suggest /c hostile all and asking them what manner of scum would want to hear a joke in a place of mourning. Or perhaps having a gnomish comedian in a solemn atmosphere is a bit of black humor all in itself.

I wholeheartedly agree that this should in some way be changed, if only just to make the gnome's conversation private so that we aren't all spammed when a parade of people come through a faction location just to get an exp bonus for entirely OOC reasons.

By the same token, I would also gladly kick Mongomery Drezdle out of the place myself, in character, if a DM wants to possess him for it.

PC groups do not own faction centers which they do not own. Likely the purpose of a quest there is to let people know that the GARDEN EXISTS.

Depressed elves are not the only race there, it isn't a faction outside of sanctuary, it is not a nation apart from Sanctuary. Quest dialogue is just something we deal with. I don't see how this warrants any change. If you want to hostile and attack people, go right ahead, you have the role playing freedom to do so, so long as you abide by the rules of pvp.

There is that locked door you can always try to get through for private conversations.

Flawed logic all around, I fear. It is a comment regarding OOC behaviour, where PCs just enter the garden and head straight to the joke quest ignoring everything else, which by the way, is not hinted to anywhere, so the notion of 'lets people know that the garden exist' is simply not applicable.

This is a suggestion thread, not a place for useless opinion with no constructive value.

I don't see how listening to a joke in exchange for free potions is particularly OOC but I am sorry that your proud elven culture is being destroyed by these cruel western savages

Your whole suggestion seems entirely based on the opinion that people are bad roleplayers because they don't want to talk to your elf. It's possible that they just don't like elves perhaps. Many cultures enjoy the company of gnomes while disliking the company of elves.

I've never actually seen any players in that garden myself and I haven't been there in ages. I don't like that you accuse players of being ooc in the pursuit of a reward that is very much IC.

Well, faction location or not, it's been set aside for non-human use, so it's kinda where we hang out a lot. That means we're probably just a little more familiar with what goes on in there that someone who doesn't spend time there.

The issue we're raising here is with the fairly commonplace occurrence of human Big Butcher Bob types coming in, spamming the room with NPC chat, and leaving without so much as a "[nods]." To your point, you're probably right, they most likely don't like elves, which raises the question why are they coming to the place where they are most likely to find elves?

I think there's a bit of misunderstanding here about what I meant earlier about "making the conversation private." It is possible to adjust the NPC conversation so that the only person who hears it is the person who is talking to Drezdle. I mean, I've got nothing against folks who want to get some free experience, I just don't want to be constantly spammed with it.
