So as the title suggests, it would be nice like how its implemented in combat, that rolling a 1 in a climb, but having the skill to succeed it, should still result in a successful climb. I ask this because my soon to be 23 or less HP wizard when he respawns takes 24+ damage sometimes when he falls, and most recently failed a grapple rope which dropped him into a pool of acid below that wasnt really indicated was present in the area and tore him to shreds before I could do anything really.

 Not fond of instant deaths.

I have to agree, if your natural skill before roll is higher than the climb DC then on rolling a 1 you should either succeed the climb (You almost slip but your skill in climbing saves you as you grab a hand hold and climb up) or perhaps on a re-rolled skill check, you fall but take no or greatly reduced damage. (You slip and fall but manage to land quite skillfully, saving yourself from any serious injuries). It can be quite annoying to have a PC with high 50's or more in natural climbing skill and invest EFUSS points only fail a DC 12 climb and take heavy damage, understandably you might be carrying a lot of gear which would add to the damage of falling but it just feels a little harsh and out of balance with many other systems.

P.S I too have had instant deaths from climbing, not fun.
