The problem of paying an assassin to do your dirty work while remaining totally incognito has always troubled me. You always end up having to meet them with a pot helmet on or something lame like that and people will OOCly know you're a bad fella, which is almost as bad as knowing ICly.

Maybe a system where you deposit a certain amount of money in the bank, kept for someone else, ready for them to withdraw would solve this problem? Can't at this moment suggest mechanically exactly how you'd designate who is allowed to collect it though. I think potentially the bank clerk could ask you to speak a password which is saved in association with the sum of money and then you just let the person know via forum PM what it is. Bit clumsy maybe. Bit impossible to script maybe?

I honestly prefer that there's some risk. It means that, in order to hire an assassin to end someone else's character, you have to be serious enough about it to take the risk on board. Your character needs to genuinely has to have a valid reason, not something frivolous like a passing insult. Without the risk all you need is the gold (and some characters are intensely rich), plus a willing assassin, and you can bypass any true risk of consequences. To my mind that's not preferred.

Yeah I agree. That is one major reason not to adopt this system, is that it's so risk free as to make it without any jeopardy and a moneyed PC can order people dead with impunity, and I had considered it. Maybe there is a much better way to do this then, I just hate the idea that when I'm doing naughty things people know everything OOC and just have to pretend ICly that it's some big mystery as to who's going around being a bad boy.

If I were ever to hire an assassin, I sure as hell would not meet him in person. I would hire someone to take a "box" to "Steve" in Starag's Rest or something.

The last thing I would want is a bank's paper trail to follow me.
