The Cult of Ascension

The Brotherhood of the Ascension (also known as the Cult of the Ascension, the Illumined Brotherhood, or more colloquially as "Ascensionists") are devotees of Frederick Bresley and the Way. They one of the oldest and longest running cults in Lower Sanctuary, and are both the loudest voice and the most prolific saboteurs against the tyranny and materialism of the Spellguard and of Upper Sanctuary. They persist in offering the hope that people can escape their lives in Sanctuary and ascend- not to the darkened surface -but to a new home and Paradise somewhere else.

The Brotherhood opposes efforts to improve the safety, stability and comfort of Sanctuary on the grounds that Sanctuary is an illusory city manufactured by the Spellguard to make people content with a miserable existence in the dark. In recent times, they have also developed a bitter rivalry with the Dwellers in Darkness over what notions of Freedom should guide the free people of Lower Sanctuary.

The Brotherhood believe that true Freedom can only be obtained through the Way of Frederick Bresley.

Association

Application: No.

Recommended Alignment: Non-Lawful. (Some exceptions possible)

Recommended Race: Non-Monstrous.

Recommended Class: Non-Druid. Clerics and Paladins worshiping other deities are strongly discouraged.

Recommended for players who thrive on conflict (association operates away from the main hub of the player base, and emphasizes antagonism to the IC status quo, entrenched conflicts with Upper Sanctuary factions & tensions with Lower Sanctuary associations, as well as a lore and story orientation)

The Charlatan

A charlatan preys on the uncertainty of the most vulnerable survivors of the apocalypse. Often times his followers are drawn from the disenfranchised dregs of society. These acolytes are expected to surrender their worldly possessions and sever all ties to their previous lives. A great cataclysm awaits the world and only those who embrace the teachings can expect salvation.


The Mystic

Mystics spend a lifetime seeking the Paradise within. Trials of faith and acts of self-mortification are the Way to Ascension. To deny yourself earthly lusts sets the spirit free, allowing it to float to a higher dimension of being. Some of the most devoted unfetter themselves to such an extent as to leave this world behind entirely, becoming one of the Departed.


The Iconoclast

The Iconoclast believe Frederick Bresley to have been a mortal whose accomplishments serves as testament to a sort of divinity found exclusively within men. This they claim proves that one needn't kneel to idols and that gods are no better than tyrants themselves. Temples are razed and idolaters heaped on pyres so as to exorcise the chains the divinities place on mortal souls.

Hello.  Cult numbers have dwindled precipitously over the past few weeks.  If you ever wanted a character that left a mark, particularly in influencing the formative stages of a new religion, there's no better faction for that.  


I've placed some concept ideas of mine at the top to sort of give anyone interested a general idea of the sort of characters they could play. I've also taken the time to shoot and star in a new recruitment video:
