The Thunder Blessing

Just under a hundred years ago the dwarven race had fallen into decline with populations dwindling under the pressure of a never ending siege of monstrous races. Abandoned or destroyed dwarven holdings litter the surface and the underdark to this day as testament to this time in dwarven history. In the year 1306, Moradin sought to remedy the decline of the dwarves through what is known as the Thundering, which bestowed on the dwarven race "The Thunder Blessing". From this moment on roughly one in every five dwarves would be born as twins, the soul of a single dwarf split into two which are known as Thunder Twins.

The Beginning of the Thunderbreakers

Though the Thunder Blessing was widely embraced for bringing a resurgence to the stout, a vocal minority of stubborn and old fashioned dwarves in the Great Rift (home of the Gold Dwarves) voiced their dissent to what Moradin and his followers had done. Tensions within the Great Rift rose, volatile arguments and brawls between supporters and rejecters of the the Thundering reached a boiling point. Finally the beligerent vocal minority, sensing their exile coming at the hands of the elders of Moradin, decided to leave the Great Rift.

Before leaving they offered a dire warning to all those who would listen of the Great Rift: the Thundering heralded the beginning of the end of the dwarven race. They had sacrificed perfection for the flawed craft, the quality of the dwarven soul for the quantity. In short, to these few dwarves, the purity of the dwarven race had been betrayed by Moradin. So they left for the depths of the underdark to build a vault to wait out the doom of their race, taking with them a massive stockpile of supplies and sealed themselves away from the world.

Only now, with the war boiling up do the Thunderbreakers return from their deep vaults, to fight against the eternal foes of the dwarven race and to sift through the molten slag of the world and forge it anew through hammer and axe to a form pleasing to the stone blooded.

The People of the Thunderbreakers

Due to their unusual beginnings, self-exile, typically without any strong claim to a clan and their independent, stubborn streak....the Thunderbreakers are an eclectic group of dwarves. Heresy of one sort or another is not uncommon within the Thunderbreakers, to which they tend to be tolerant of. Rejection of the Thunder Blessing is the single unifying belief of the group and they tend to favor faith in the dwarven gods of war (Clangeddin, Gorm, Haela).

As a result of their origins they do not have the typical structure of a clan with a thane or king. Currently Khorgrimm Oathmantle more or less leads the group but there is no strict leadership and the Thunderbreakers view themselves as brothers and equals.

Summary

The Thunderbreakers are what I would call "doomdsay preppers" who have survived the end they sought to survive and return to the world feeling justified in their ages old dispute against the Thundering and Moradin upon seeing the desolation. They now return from their vaults to make the world right again according to their stubborn ideals. This varies deeply from one dwarf to another, but it is built on the back of the idea that the dwarven way is the best way. While this is a strictly dwarven group (for now) this does not mean they are not deeply vested in the matters of other races of the territory around them. I can't go into specifics yet, but there are some interesting plots and plans in the works that could make playing a PC in the Thunderbreakers very interesting in the near future!

A great group to make a PC for to work against the overwhelmingly evil/monstrous slant of the server currently. Should be noted that we have at least one paladin, so prepare to share the burden of detect evil!

Feel free to roll up as a dwarf who has arrived from the mysterious "doomsday vault" in the deep underdark somewhere, but make sure to let us know in advance so we know to recognize you from our 100~ years sharing company.

A seriously cool take on Dwarves given how EFU's historically so moradin-centric.

Crazy militia mountain men hiding out with weapon stocks in their doomsday vault ftw.
