Swimming timer bug

So I had been swimming around killing fish a fair amount on Abelard Darshan, and I had the swimming timer pretty well down. Next thing I know I have two sessions when I drown. It seemed the drowning timer was counting down very quickly.

I tested this pretty extensively with SC, who I think thought for a long time I was either a little bit insane, or trying to scam xp. Anyhow, after maybe 20 dives I was able to replicate the problem three times. Using a stop watch I am pretty certain the drowning timer moves at double speed. I recorded approximately 123 seconds to drown for a supposedly 168 seconds breath holding time, but it wasnt double speed until towards the end of the swim.

I was unable to find any trigger for this. It did not seem to be related to moving, fighting, the location in the water you entered from (although all tests were done in the “under the Scarmander” area)  or getting tangled in he kelp. As far as I could tell it was random when it popped up.

Interestingly Jzhmer playing Urebrion Melie also reported a similar problem, although his was simultaneous with the well known slow moving bug. It also happened in the Scarmander.

Not sure there is much can be done, but at least this report might remind some players to keep on their toes when they swim! Double drown times are surprisingly exciting.

I can confirm this bug. The combat log is synced with the fact that the timer is going down faster, ie. it says I have 10 rounds left (60 seconds). After 2.5 rounds it will say I have 5 rounds left (30 seconds).

I re-entered the area (submerged machine). That is when the timer went crazy. Nothing else of note.

This sounds like a similar bug that afflicted Diluvians where the timer seemed to stack, causing 10 "rounds" to go past in the space of a few seconds. Maybe some of these transitions down are adding the timer scripts twice?

Vlaid

I am wondering if this isn't related to a problem I recently had with addiction where I wasn't getting checks for a long time and then suddenly got about 7 back to back.

Might be related or might not, but it seems a similar issue with server ticks/timing getting off.

Incorrigible

It sounds like the air suffocating bug, but in reverse. The one where servants of the Veneroida would have their air timer count down twice as fast when going to the surface sometimes, specifically when entering the Old Stones. This time it is drowning when going into the water instead of out of it.

Incorrigible

My turn. I can confirm that when this happens the drowning tic comes twice as fast. Two tics of damage per round at least. When dying from it the death was counted as a FD, making it unable to respawn from. Carmen Evans killed Carmen Evans. In the past I have drowned before *coughkelpcough* and been able to respawn, but those were normal drownings. Might be related.

Howlando

Can anyone report that they experienced this prior to EFU:R?

John Doe

Since no one did...

I haven't experienced it before EFU:R

MirrorMask

Neither have I, but it just killed me and another.  Went through about 24 rounds of breath in 30 seconds or less.  Rolling initiative seems to have caused it.

xXCrystal_Rose

Oh right. No, haven't experienced the drowning bug prior to efu:r, only the similar bug for when you are on the land as an aquatic PC.

Kotenku

This has happened to me in EFUA and EFUM

Ebok

This hit me three times in a row, lost 10 rounds in the time it took to drink two potions. Killed me depressingly enough-- but it seemed to happen whenever initiative was rolled.

Multiple things entering darkness triggered the rolls. :(

This is certainly still happening, with an approximate 1 in 10 dive frequency for me. I dont think it has anything to do with combat, however, Ebok, I've seen in in waters without even visible mobs, let alone combat. Also your ten round in two seems much faster than the double time I have witnessed (30 seconds passes very neatly in 15).
