A small issue about approaching low levels solo quests

Hi all

Something I noticed for a while that doesn't sit well with me. I know that the starts are rough, and there's a need to do all those solo quests to gain some levels and gold.

But something's I've seen of late is new PCs literally running around to do all of them. If it's in the Crone or the Sacred Cave or anywhere else (Those are the places I keep seeing it happening though), I ask you not to do that, especially while there are others there. It leaves a bad taste (and honestly, a bad impression, at least on me). I'd hope some will actually try to at least RP while they go down to Lower to do them, but at least don't run around for them.

In my opinion, those quests aren't just to let your PC get a decent amount of gold, but also, gives him/her a chance to interact with non Upper PCs.

Well...end rant, haha.

Running in populated areas in general seems like bad form, but I was guilty of running the Sacred Cave quest a few times on my previous character, before he really settled in to Upper.

It was actually pretty neat, because one time, I ran into some pretty sketchy folks in the Cave who were also there for the quest, and it turned into some really cool RP that made my character never, ever want to go to Lower again.

sorry i'm not allowed to talk to people before i'm level 5 stay outta my way gotta get that dosh run run dolla bill

Just do your thing and ignore the lesser/minor stuff that bothers you. The PC will soon be gone through the door, literally in this case. Not worth one's time.

Calixto

I try not to run when there are a lot of pcs logged on and chances are that I could stumble on one of them. At the same time, I understand most people have limited time to play, and the same people find it silly to waste precious minutes walking from one place to another instead of running. Whether they otherwise rp or not is another issue.

But personally I don't care seeing a character in my screen running. It doesn't affect me.
Most enjoyable characters:

EFU: COR
Tristan Caerfal (NG Human Sharpshooter)

EFU:R
Thomas Valentine (Human NG Fighter/Rogue)
Durga (Half-Orc NE Cleric of Ilneval/Fighter)

EFU:M
Marion Sileyna (Human LN Cleric of Loviatar/Fighter)
Atreia Kelten (Human Paladin of Tyr)
Riku (NG Stargazer Ranger)

The dialogue can be disruptive. Otherwise atmospheric paragraphs will flood the screens of anyone nearby, when impatiently clicked through.

I can handle the flat-out running newbies, who go from NPC to NPC at light speed, who just want to level up do all the quests.... I ignore them usually. That bit is easy. Sometimes I have tried to talk as they run past at speed. Often it is pointless.

... but the wall-of-text[/i] that appears in five seconds flat (from 5 or 6 dialogue trees being opened) to open or complete a quest with an NPC... especially if someone is having a meditative conversation with another player (even in a nearby room)... can completely ruin atmosphere and a train of thought. And having to sort through all the 'junk' dialogue to see what the other player said.... is like watching an MMORPG...

Fair enough if the dialogue is PvP or something - that kind of interruption is completely fine and welcomed.

All I'd recomend is... take the time to read through the text of the NPC for each entry... If you dont want to read, then give a five second pause for each entry.... That gives a reasonable time for people in the area to casually notice ambient voices.... and not get bombed by spam-text.

If you don't have time to read, I understand :)

Just slow down a bit and see who is around... before you start running spam quests (if that is what you want to do)... :)

Knight Of Pentacles

Handle it in game.  If they're running in Upper report it to the Watchers.  If they're doing it in Lower and it seems disrespectful to you, well...

Deepdrake

People that run in Upper, often end in Lower, if you get my drift.

MaimedGod

Honestly, the starter delivery quest grind is the most boring and uninspired thing I can think of, and I skipped it on my first PC here and will no doubt try to skip it on all my other PCs too. If you are just going to reward XP and gold for clicking through a dialogue tree then honestly just have it all awarded instantly upon arrival instead of spreading it out.

MaimedGod the whole point of that is getting the PC to know the places, factions and most important basic information on the setting without having to simply read stuff. It might be boring for the second time around (but most of them are one time only). Still, on every new PC, it is just an IC way to justify your basic knowledge of the town, whilist gaining that initial XP. So yes, your logic is right, IF it was meant only for the XP, they'd surely just give it out on starter area. :)

There was an idea thrown around somewhere that there be a starter portal for "vets" similar to the one in EFU:M.  You skipped the Zig and dream sequence and ended up right outside Mistlocke with the appropriate amount of XP and token gp that you would have gotten going the "long way".

IIRC, the idea was something along the lines of .. if you took the "vet" portal, you would end up in Sanc with the ring, token gp, appropriate XP and marked as having done the "New PC Crawl".  That way it alleviated that initial run through the starters that you often see people literally run through.

Don`t matter. We expect people to roleplay quests they did hundred times. We expect the same from lowbie path.

The more you cut short, the more MMO it becomes, the less EFU it feels. People who run through quests get DM slapped. Same goes for people who treat the lowbie path as exactly the same. Point is those people who do that are generally those who run and roleplay little in quests.

This isn`t a handle IC matter. It`s a step your game up matter and don`t cut your roleplay short ever, if possible.

Isn't handling it in character the same as making them step up their game and encouraging them not to cut their roleplay short???

You`re right! Brownie points for you, but I wanted to emphasized that we're going to crack down OOC toward this kind of behavior.
