Off with their heads!

On another popular server that I've played on, players could use their PC tools on the corpse of another PC to remove it's head. Upon targeting the corpse with your tool you would attack the corpse and receive an item. The item looked like an icky severed head and said "'s head" the corpse then also said "'s headless corpse"

I hear on some other server, that if this was done the corpse was mangled and needed more than just a normal raise dead. I'd be fine with just the basic implementation however.

I thought this was awesome.

I love this idea!  If it could be done (and wouldn't impact the wishes of the DM team) I'd love to see it implemented.

I think that this would be permadeath for most players, and making it available at the click of a button may result in a lot of characters lost over petty little pvp.

On the other hand if it wasn't abused it would be pretty sweet. but only necessary if the player who is killed is being lame about RPing the old-fashioned emote method of mangling a corpse, and I like to think the player base is above that.

Also if the head dropped as an item it would be a great way to collect bounties and whatnot.

Maybe we can take a tip from Diablo II, and do a slice of the ear for bounties, as Draon17 mentioned? Maiming a corpse entirely could, as he said, be abusive without a DM's approval.

Hmmm... or maybe a finger. The ear thing is just not violent enough for me. But yes, I think this is a grand idea and could help out those malevolent characters and bounty hunters who need that "I have that dude's body part on a string around my neck!" feeling. Know what I'm sayin'?

Actually I think this may have opposite of the desired effect. I think some players would be more than willing to be hacking off ears and fingers but would at least give it a small amount of thought (hopefully) if they were going to be taking the head and making them perma-dead. I think ears and or fingers is going to make it be that there will be a lot of players walking around missing extremities.

Perhaps this could be something mixed with the pvp system: have only sparring and subdual mode for the actual fighting, and only when it is done, have the player who wants to FD his victim be forced to do it as another task.

This does make a player think twice about what's he's doing, and IC is way of actually dealing the death blow very deliberately in the eyes of who's watching.

Or is it too much hassle for naught?

You know, I hadn't really taken into consideration that people who die in PvP can't respawn normally. I'd settle for just a face. I'm not looking to ruin anyone's day by shoving permadeath on them.. I just need some company on my long walks on the beach. ;)

I like the Ear removal idea, to prove someone's dead! It's a nice little touch, and wouldn't change the current PvP/Perma-death balance!
