LET US KNOW!

Let us know of your intentions and actions before doing them during DM quests.

If what you are going to do next differs from what you have just said to some NPC, inform us. If you whisper with your group and form a new plan, inform it to us through the DM channel. Even if you talk about it, we might not always notice it as we might be elsewhere setting the next area or dealing with something else. Especially if you are going to do some hostile action, you should inform us.

These are good DM channel messages:

"We are going to betray them at time X and place Y"

"I am going to lie to them about X"

"I am scouting ahead in area X. Do I see anything?"

"I am going to attack my party member for reaxon X"

"I am going to steal X loot from place Y"

"My character is not going to take part in this fight and tries not to interfere"

and so on...

It will be so much easier if you tell us DMs what you are going to do then we can foresee the situation and set it up accordingly. For instance, we are ready to pause the game and hostile every creature in the area if you suddenly seek to attack them.* It will be a lot more pleasant for you as well.

Please send them because often enough it is one DM trying to follow a group of five or more and especially when the number exceeds the normal quest limit (6-8 players) it is getting very messy and it's a sheer impossibility to answer and notice everyone.

(*If you attack plot-faction creatures, they will turn hostile -only- to you until others attack them as well. This means they will all charge at you or shoot your with projectiles at the same time. Not very fun as I am sure you know)
"EFU is a romance server now" -Vlaid

"Some people just gotta be killed" -Gip

Also, seriously, a fellow player's advice... Use this! It's absolutely TOTALLY worth it, trust me on this one.

Good you point it out again. What has been a small source of bother for me personally though is that my DM messages in those situations are not usually responded to. A simple nod to acknowledge that the message has been read is something I for one would appreciate lots.

DMs are very busy Edvard, if it isn't important enough to warrant a response, like rolling a skill check to open a door you probably won't get one.

I am not debating otherwise HP. It's also very easy to stomp a small courtesy suggestion into the ground by using a very frivlous example against it.

Letting the player know with something as simple as 'No time', 'No', or 'OK' does not  take a second, and it will help both the player and DM in assuring that the message got across. I am told that the DMs monitor so much things at once that these messages often slip by them. If you notify them, and they ended up reading over it, then who is helped by that?

Just my two cents.

Ps. I don't want to constantly repeat myself in the DM channel with the same question / notification in fear of being considered a spammer. That is why it helps to be acknowledged in any sort of way.

While I'm not saying you do this, DMs are more likely to respond to a query or request in-game if you are clear about what you want. "Is someone there?" is our most hated phrase and like to receive silence.

I second this

I recently started DM'ing on another server, my first time DM'ing since I started playing NWN about 10 years ago. Going through and running events for the folk there, you get a new appreciation for the things DM's do, because however fun and rewarding it may be to be a DM, it's also very stressful and draining. There is literally so much going on that you don't always have time to even say "Will do," you just have to keep what they said at the back of your mind until you can give their request the attention it requires. At least that's been my experience.

I wouldn't worry about spamming, either. If it's an event thing, sending a message once every minute or two until you get a reply is good enough. If it's something that doesn't need to be handled immediately, sending a message every 15 minutes works. So long as you don't flood the chat, asking now and then and keeping DM's up to date will make everyone's lives easier, especially yours.
