Please could its description make it clear what it is for? It was not at all obvious what it does, or that it is in fact one use only. The item type and 1/day use gives the impression it's a reusable combat item, when it really isn't. I can't be the only player to accidentally blow 400 gold on something of no use to their PC. It's a cool idea, but currently PCs that would be able use it will likely overlook it, while others will buy it pointlessly.

Spend 400 find out if it works daily, if it doesn't then now you know its a 400 coin one use.

I believe it's intentionally vague. It's a contraption.

The problem with stuff like this is you get players that have bought it once, know what it does and what skills you need to use it, and actually bother with it. And then the rest that have no clue and don't want to waste the cash. So it only gets used by players that are in on the OOC secrets. A vague contraption that looks OOC like a combat item, has no IC info to the contrary, but would be burned up for no use in combat is not fun for anyone.

It's not like Flash Powder etc where the mechanics might be hidden but at least you have some idea what to do. Throw at enemy, do something bad to them. Looking at that item or talking to Bilby, your PC would have some idea what they were supposed to do with it and if they had the skills to. Otherwise, how would they start off activating it? As it is, you only know what the point of it is once you use it. So that's 400 gold just to test it, at which point it's lost unless you're the right Rogue build.

I'd refrain from commenting on its purpose unless you've actually tried it out and know what I mean here.

Yes, I've used several of these items. Successfully and unsuccessfully. I don't think you understand them as well as you seem to think you do though.

They are just nifty little gamble-ish items. If you're not interested in taking that chance you really don't HAVE to spend the gold to figure out what they do. There are other ways to get them that are best found out IG as well.

Well, I don't have to spend the gold to find out what they do any more. I know :P. My point is that if it was clear on the description that they were an out of combat one use gambling item, I'd not have bothered with it. Or wouldn't have tried to use it until i had a better shot at it. It came across from the description and power as something you could keep trying at once a day until you won, and I was surprised that was not the case.
