Behave in IRC.

Channel #efu is not a private channel, and comments can easily be misunderstood by visitors or those new to the EFU:A community. I ask that players who choose to hang out there watch their behavior and what they say carefully, avoiding excessive use of swear words/trolling/etc. or things that you think might put off our guests.

In general I think our community is very welcoming, helpful, and OOC respectful (despite being a full PvP server, we have an extraordinarily low incident rate of ooc problems), however I did receive a PM from a newer player today pointing out that sometimes the way people talk in #efu may be off putting to newer players in particular.

Thanks.

Bump. I'm not interested in #efu being a cesspool.

Nuclear Catastrophe

It's strange how we are -

Extremely welcoming on the forums
Extremely welcoming in game

...and then we get to IRC and it all breaks down.

Me, personally, I am not offended by anything in the world, and kind of secretly enjoy an argument now and again, but some people are more sensitive to certain subjects.  I've had it come to my attention that some people have actually been pushed away from the game as a whole because of behaviour on IRC.  I had never really considered it a massive issue before, but if even one person has been turned away because of IRC shenanigans, it's one person too many.

So try and avoid :-

Casual racism
Casual sexism
Bullying/harassment
Overuse of swearing
Personal attacks on people in the main channel

It goes for us too, I suppose.  If you want, you can make an IRC channel for such things and invite your friends easily enough, but it's our duty to make sure that nobody is ever turned off Mistlocke by an unfriendly main channel.

Any questions, or if anyone has any personal experience with this they might want to get off their chest, shoot me a forum PM, in confidence if you wish.

I am not 100% active in game but know that I will be keeping a keen eye on IRC and will not hesitate to punish those who make it a horrible place to hang.

Remember trolling & irony can easily be misunderstood, so what may come out as a joke may be ill recieved. Behave, folks.

I lift this one up, and bring a reminder of most obvious rule we have ever had, on top of the messages above.

No spoiling IC situations, actions, gear, quests or any in game details or spoilers in #efu. That channel is for the server, information, sharing stories and for discussion certainly - it is not for discussion to spoil hours of our work to keep some things mysterious both IC and OOC.

It is frankly insulting for the DM's that use their time to do things. I appreacite if you folks take this to the heart, as it has began to slip lately.

Thank you.
